 I ran a couple scans this morning because a blank window popped up then disappeared on my computer. I started in safe mode and ran as admin MAW found PUM.hijack.taskmanager and moved it to quarantine.

Then I started normal and ran an online ESET scan. It found win32/kryptik.ADFS varient I've included the Hijack this log and also the ESET log.

Not sure what to do now. Feels like I was just here with the whole babylon thing and now I'm back. :(

Any help is appreciated! Margaret

SIDE NOTE: I am working with Jeffce on issues with my home computer, separate from this, which is my work computer. Hope that doesn't violate a policy. I wasn't sure. :)

Hi SouthernBelle,

:welcome:

My name is NoodleTech. I would be glad to assist you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • Please be aware that removing malware is not without risk and while unrecoverable damage to systems is rare, it can happen and may require a re-format and re-install of your operating system. Because of this it is a good idea to back-up anything important saved on your computer.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Do not delete anything unless instructed to.
  • DO NOT use tools such as ComboFix without supervision.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clean.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Failure to respond within 3 days will result in this topic being closed - If you need more time to complete the steps required, please let me know.

If you work for a company and it is their computer I suggest you contact your IT department as we generally only help with home computers. Working on a corporate computer can sometimes change settings which your company might not be too pleased about.

If it is your own business then I can help but be aware that we cannot be held responsible if any proprietary business information is compromised due to being on an open forum.

Please advise me on the situation.
Hi Noodletech- Yes I do understand that. WTT has helped before with much success. Mine is an independent from the other computers computer so I'm ready when you are. :)

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments,  attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scrolling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.
===================================================

Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.

Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. (Vista/Windows 7 users - right click to run as administrator)

Click Scan
  • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review.
  • Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
  • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat.
  • Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file.
  • Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.
Okay here ya go. Took me a minute I ran the first scan and then didn't know where the log went!! LOL
Have a great morning!

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 2

* IMPORTANT- Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

====================================================

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications as they will interfere with our tools and the removal. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to our sticky topic How to disable your security applications

====================================================

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.
Hi SouthernBelle,

I had a great weekend, thanks for asking :). I hope you had a great one too!

Next time, it's ok to just cut and paste the log into your post. Easier for both you and me.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Okay will do. The follow is the MWB log. I already had that on my computer but updated and ran the scan. Hi SouthernBelle, All the scans are coming up clean. Would you mind running ESET again and posting the log? I would like to see where it is detecting win32/kryptik.ADFS. Thanks, NT
Hi, me again :) I've tried twice to run ESET scan and it gets hung right around this: C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks 2011_01.11.11.35 file It hangs and won't go any further with the scan. I waited over an hour yesterday before I cancelled it and then again today for more than an hour. Just gets stuck. Should I start in safe mode and try it?
Did a full scan and its took well over 4 hours. Wow! Anyway, heres what it found: ;******************************************************************************* ********************************************************************************* ******************* ANALYSIS: 2012-04-04 13:14:08 PROTECTIONS: 1 MALWARE: 6 SUSPECTS: 1 ;******************************************************************************* ********************************************************************************* ******************* PROTECTIONS Description Version Active Updated ;=============================================================================== ================================================================================= =================== avast! Hi SouthernBelle,

Everything looks good! How is your computer behaving now?

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 31.
  • After the download completes, close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Double click the Java setup file you just downloaded and follow the prompts to begin the installation.
Now to Clean out the Java cache:

Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon. [external image: Posted Image]
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings… button
  • click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave all 3 Checked
    • Downloaded Applets
      Downloaded Applications
      Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Settings
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
===================================================

Download TFC to your desktop
  • Open the file and close any other windows.
  • It will close all programs itself when run, make sure to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. The program should not take long to finish its job
  • Once its finished it should reboot your machine, if not, do this yourself to ensure a complete clean
I followed those instruction but noticed I only had one other Java so I deleted it and installed the latest version. My computer seems fine, haven't had any instances of hanging or slowness so I think we're good to go! Thanks so much for having a look. Enjoy the rest of your week and consider me another satisfied WTT client!! :) Margaret
