Hello I have a Trojan Horse Backdoor.Generic15.IKV virus as reported by my AVG antivirus programme which finds the infected files of restore type which it moves to it's virus chest store, but they keep re-occurring. It further says the files are: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe So I have turned off System Restore and run Malwarebytes which found no infections. I am running XP Professional SP3 with Office 2003 Professional SP2 Help with removal would be very much appreciated. regards bar457 Here is the DDS report:- . Hello there, bar457

:welcome:

I'm Conspire, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Read the entire procedure
  • It is important to perform ALL actions in sequence.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with me till you're given the all clear.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone.
  • Don't attempt to clean your computer with any tools other than the ones I ask you to use during the cleanup process.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete anything unless instructed to. Remember to backup all your important data(if possible) before moving on.
[external image: Posted Image]
  • Please download GMER from one of the following locations, and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zip Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop (applicable only to Zip mirror) .
  • Double click [external image: Posted Image] or [external image: Posted Image] on your desktop.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.
    [external image: Posted Image]

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries

===================================================

Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. (Vista/Windows 7 users - right click to run as administrator)
  • Click Scan

  • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
  • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.
===================================================

On your next reply please post :
GMER log
aswMBR log

Let me know if you have any problems in performing with the steps above or any questions you may have.

Good Day!

Hello,

Please read through these instructions to familarize yourself with what to expect when this tool runs

Refer to the ComboFix User's Guide

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs

    **********************************************
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Are you still getting the svchost.exe warning?

Please STOP and let me know if you have any problems in performing with the steps above or any questions you may have.

Good Day!
Please find Eset and Mbam logs below. When we took the first action to run ComboFix, I could not disable my AVG antivirus as I could not open it, clearly it had now become compromised. To continue, I uninstalled it completely. On attempting restart after uninstall, Windows hung at the closing down stage and after a long while I used power switch to shut down. At start up, it took a longish while and the Windows start up music was interupted throughout. Once started operation appeared fine and has been since. However after running TFC it tried to reboot and went through the same difficulties exactly as last time in stalling at closing and slow start up. It seems that something has been compromised in the shutdown/startup process. But once restarted, it seems to work ok. I plan to install Avast instead of AVG when all is finally sorted. Logs:- *********************************************************** ESET C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Downloads\hamsterfreevideoconverter1.exe Win32/Toolbar.Zugo application *********************************************************** Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.60.1.1000 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: v2012.03.02.04 Windows XP Service Pack 3 x86 NTFS Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 Owner :: NX8220 [administrator] 02/03/2012 19:51:06 mbam-log-2012-03-02 (19-51-06).txt Scan type: Quick scan Scan options enabled: Memory | Startup | Registry | File System | Heuristics/Extra | Heuristics/Shuriken | PUP | PUM Scan options disabled: P2P Objects scanned: 167782 Time elapsed: 10 minute(s), 4 second(s) Memory Processes Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Folders Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) Files Detected: 0 (No malicious items detected) (end)
Yes everything seems to be running smoothly except during the actual shutdown and startup proceedures. Restart stalls and I have to use power switch to shut down. Then start up is slow and the interrupted music shows that it is hessitating, but it does slowly complete the start up and then seems fine once running. rgds…………..bar457
