My netbook is really slow running the internet. I have comcast so I don't think it is the service. I have been having problems with Google, so I think i have malware running in the background.

Hello again jcats007

I have been having problems with Google

Your HijackThis log shows that the hosts file has been altered so google and bing redirect to a server in Romania.

===================================================

Did you install this (Desktop Shark)?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dskl] C:\DS\dskl.exe

It appears to be a Keylogger for spying on keystrokes. if you didn't knowingly install it, include it in the fix below by placing a tick beside it and uninstall Desktop Shark using the method described below, (Uninstall the following program).

===================================================

Run HijackThis

Open HijackThis and click Do a system scan only.

Place a check mark next to:

O1 - Hosts: 94.63.240.131 www.google.com
O1 - Hosts: 94.63.240.132 www.bing.com
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Incredibar.com Helper Object - {6E13DDE1-2B6E-46CE-8B66-DC8BF36F6B99} - C:\Program Files\Incredibar.com\incredibar\1.5.3.27\bh\incredibar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Incredibar Toolbar - {F9639E4A-801B-4843-AEE3-03D9DA199E77} - C:\Program Files\Incredibar.com\incredibar\1.5.3.27\incredibarTlbr.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: igdlogin - igdlogin.dll (file missing)

Remember to place a checkmark next to this if necessary:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dskl] C:\DS\dskl.exe

Close all windows except for HijackThis and click Fix checked.

===================================================

Uninstall the following program, if present:

Incredibar Toolbar

To remove it:
  • click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
  • double-click Add or Remove Programs (it may take time for the list to appear, so be patient)
  • scroll down the list and look for Incredibar Toolbar or any entries with Incredibar in the name:
  • if present, click on the program name and then on Remove.
Remember to do the same for Desktop Shark if you didn't install it.

===================================================

Download and run OTL
  • download OTL to your desktop.
  • double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • when the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • under Custom Scan paste this in

  • you may need two posts to fit them both in.

Thanks

Satchfan
Thank you for your help so far! I could not locate the desktop shark to uninstall. I followed the instructions. I want to get rid of any and everything NOT needed on my system. I occasionally get the dreaded "blue" screen and have to completely reboot my system. Very annoying.

Here are my scan files….

Download and run ComboFix

Download ComboFix from the following location:

Link

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, as they may otherwise interfere with our tools. See here for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

    **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue its malware removal procedures.

    Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    [external image: Posted Image]

    Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
Note: Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

When finished, it will produce a log. Please include the ComboFix.txt in your next reply. It can be found at C:\ComboFix.txt

Remember to send the aswMBR fix log as well.

I'm not sure if I did the first thing correct…

In fact this didn't work because ComboFix was not saved directly to your drsktop. I apologise as I should have noticed that sooner.

Run ComboFix

Delete the version of ComboFix you have here:

c:\documents and settings\Owner\My Documents\Downloads\ComboFix.exe

Download a new version which MUST be saved directly to your desktop. Choose save as and then make sure you choose Desktop

Download a new version from one of the following locations:

Link1
Link2
Link3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • open ComboFix
  • close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so that they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:
Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000000

Save this as "CFScript.txt", and as Type: All Files (*.*) in the same location as ComboFix.exe

[external image: Posted Image]

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it produces a log at C:\ComboFix.txt. Post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.

Please re-run aswMBR and let me know how things are running.

Thanks

I do not get the option to save to the desktop. It downloads to the "downloads" folder and when I click on it from there it only says run or cancel.

I do not get the option to save to the desktop. It downloads to the "downloads" folder

  • When you click on one of the links I gave you, you will see a download prompt giving the option to “Run”, “Save” or “Cancel”
  • Click on the Save button.
  • When it asks you where to save it, make sure you choose Desktop
  • When you have done this, click on the Save button again.
When ComboFix has finished downloading, follow my previous instructions.

If you have any problems, get back to me.
Download ComboFix from the following location: (this is the link that you used the last time so it should work properly)

ComboFix

You should get the chance to "Save as" instead of "Save". If you can "Save as", save it to your desktop.

If that doesn't work, move the version you have to your desktop. Your current version is here:

c:\documents and settings\Owner\My Documents\Downloads\ComboFix.exe

To do this
  • open Windows Explorer (Windows key + E)
  • in the left window, double-click on each of those in the above path in the order they appear: that is double-click on C:, then documents and settings, then Owner, then My Documents and finally on Downloads
  • in the right window, you'll see a list of your downloaded programs
  • highlight ComboFix.exe, right-click on it and choose Copy
  • close Windows Explorer and go to your desktop
  • right-click on any empty space on the desktop and choose Paste
Now try to follow the previous instructions in yesterday's post
