No problem with router - I have an old XP computer sitting next to it and it connects through same hub just fine.
I tried to uninstall NortonOnlineBackup but it is not listed in the Programs and Features list!! I have disabled COMODO and Desura and will post a report soon about computer's behaviour

OK, waited 15 minutes, then double-clicked Freecell - it took 20 seconds to load.
Playing Freecell was normal speed, but after winning game, I clicked on X to close it and it did nt respond for about 5 seconds
Latest update - in Selective Startup I disabled ALL non-Microsoft service, yet 20 minutes after reboot, I got the System is low on Memory message
ONE LAST EDIT
I unplugged the network cable, rebooted, and an hour and a half later I am still sitting at only 2% CPU used, so it seems like connecting physically to the internet is causing the computer to eat up CPU and RAM. I hope that helps
SECOND EDIT
I left the computer on all night, and no memory usage
SO: THE SLOWDOWN IS WHEN I AM PHYSICALLY CONNECTED TO THE ROUTER/INTERNET
Which means
1) There is a virus or something downloading/messing me up when I am connected
OR
2) Because my internet settings are only half working (can ping ip addresses but not URL, can not browse), a program or service is desperately trying to make the internet work but can not, and eventually chews up all my memory
ANyway, that's all the feedback I have until I get home from work today
Hey Makofan,
I think it might be best to delete COMODO livePCsupport, just go into programs and features and highlight entry, at the same time lets remove Activate Norton Online Backup (Version: 1.1.20.0) from the installed program list.
Then please download
TDSSKiller.zip
Extract it to your desktop Double click TDSSKiller.exe when the window opens, click on Change Parameters under ”Additional options” , put a check mark in the box next to “Detect TDLFS File System” click OK Press Start Scan
Only if Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected Then click Continue > Reboot now Copy and paste the log in your next reply
A copy of the log will be saved automatically to the root of the drive (typically C:\)
COMODO livePCsupport removed
Activate Norton Online Backup removed
Scan run with no threats found (no cure needed)

Hey Makofan,
First lets set DNS back to automatic:
Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking change adapter settings.
Right-click the connection that you want to change, and then click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
To obtain a DNS server address automatically, click Obtain DNS server address automatically, and then click OK.
Next lets try a Windows repair of the network connection if your network icon appears on the Windows taskbar, then you can repair it by right-clicking on the icon and selecting Repair.
[external image: Posted Image]
If you have no task bar icon do this:
Click on the Start button . Click on the Settings menu option. Click on the Control Panel option. When the Control Panel opens, double-click on the Network Connections icon. If your Control Panel is set to Category View, then double-click on Network and Internet Connections and then click on Network Connections at the bottom. You will now see a list of available network connections. Locate the connection for your Wireless or Lan adapter and right-click on it. click on the Repair menu option .
[external image: Posted Image]
Let the repair process perform its tasks and when it has finished, your Internet connection should be working again.
Then lets try another
Farbar Service Scanner run
Make sure the following options are checked:Internet Services Windows Firewall sfcSystem Restore Security Center Windows Update Press "Scan ". It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
When I try to repair (called Diagnose in Win 7) I get the message after it tries all the fixes:
"Local Area Connection adapter doesn't have a valid IP configuration"
This is highly frustrating - how can I have "Google IP is accessible" if I can't ping anything?
Here is Farbar log

Hey Makofan,
Lets look in device manager to confirm what is going on with your Lan card.
First, go to start and highlight computer from right side of menu, right click and select properties from the drop down menu.
Select Devie Manager in the upper left corner. Looking at device manager do you see any exclamation marks ? red X's ?
If not double click network adapters, this should drop down to reveal installed network adapter, please identify this card as to exact model and write it down along with your make and model of computer, service tag if there is one and include in next post.
Now right click the adapter and select uninstall, accept challenge/confirmation.
After it has been uninstalled, go to Action tab at top of device manager window and select "Scan for hardware changes" this should redetect and install the Lan card. Reboot the computer after this has been completed.
Finally after reboot look on the back of your computer at NIC card, there should be 2 lights on the card, one continously lit amber or green and the other flickering at regular intervals, just confirm or identify in your next post what you see please

All good here
If not double click network adapters, this should drop down to reveal installed network adapter, please identify this card as to exact model and write it down along with your make and model of computer, service tag if there is one and include in next post.
Done successfully
Network Adapter: NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
Computer: Compaq CQ5210F
Serial No: MMX9470FMT (did not see a service tag)
Now right click the adapter and select uninstall, accept challenge/confirmation.
After it has been uninstalled, go to Action tab at top of device manager window and select "Scan for hardware changes" this should redetect and install the Lan card. Reboot the computer after this has been completed.
Done
Finally after reboot look on the back of your computer at NIC card, there should be 2 lights on the card, one continously lit amber or green and the other flickering at regular intervals, just confirm or identify in your next post what you see please
Yes, the lights are behaving properly.
I ran the Win 7 Network Troubleshooting again, and this time got an error message:
"Either the Peer Name Resolution Protocol service (PNRPsvc) or Peer Networking Identity Manager service (p2pimsvc) is not running.
The Peer Networking Grouping service (p2psvc) depends on both these services in order to function properly"
Hey Makofan,
PNRP is one of core Technologies for HomeGroup. If the relevant service is stopped, it may not verify HomeGroup settings.
a. Click "Start", go to run, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and press Enter.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
b. Right click the "Peer Networking Identity Manager" service and choose Properties.
c. On General tab click Start.
d. Choose Automatic next to Startup type.
e. Click OK.
f. Please repeat the above steps to start the following services: Peer Name Resolution Protocol; Peer Networking Grouping; PNRP Machine Name Publication Service.
Run the Win 7 Network Troubleshooting again and post back results please
Peer Networking Identity Manager started, the other three did not
Peer Name Resolution Protocol: Windows could not start the Peer Name Resolution Protocol service on Local Computer. Error 10022: An invalid argument was supplied
Peer Networking Grouping: Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start
PNRP Machine Name Publication: Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start
Hey Makofan,
It looks like you are not alone with this problem I found quite a few with similar issues, the following link suggests two methods that may be helpful. The deletion of the idstore.sst file allowed a number of people to reenable their Homegroup
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows…75-d8d385dcbb12
Please post back your results
Neither solution worked; I am at a loss; still can't start any of those services, nor connect to the internet, even booting up in safe mode with networking
Hey Makofan,
So a final suggestion I might try on the computer would be to leave the Homegroup with all computers .

Then depending on your preference recreate the homegroup or attempt to connect as a standalone connection through your local network connection.
The unfortunate thing here is that the type of malware that was on your computer seems to arbitrarily damage critical files in the TCP/IP stack, files that are critical for negotiiating your internet connection, that are difficult to trace. If they are not determined the only resolution is to back up your data and restore your computer to factory settings using the restore partition, this
MUST be a destructive restore to insure no remnants of malware are left on the computer.
If you do opt to reinstall I believe Compaq uses the F11 key to access the restore partition at boot up. Make sure all important data is backed up on external hard drive or USB flash drive, no user data will remain after the restore is completed.
So will factory settings reformat my hard drive, and I must install all programs again?
