My laptop is running extremely slow and when I boot up I need to let it run for about 30 minutes before I can use. Also when I boot up two exe's run at extremely high memory usage (WUAUDT and SVCHOST). I am currently running AVG and Norton. And I have started running CCLEANER recently. Any suggestions?

Here is my hijackthis.log

Hi and Welcome!! :) My name is Jeff. I would be more than happy to take a look at your malware results logs and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • Please subscribe to this topic, if you haven't already. You can subscribe by clicking the Watch Topic button to the right of your topic title and then choosing the notification method ( Recommended: Inmediate Notification)
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.
Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your OS losing all your programs and data.

Vista and Windows 7 users:
These tools MUST be run from the executable (.exe) every time you run them
with Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

Hi,

Thanks for the new log. The other looked incomplete but this one is what I needed. :)
————–

Please download TDSSKiller.zip
  • Extract it to your desktop
  • Double click TDSSKiller.exe
  • Press Start Scan
    • Only if Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected
    • Then click Continue > Reboot now
  • Copy and paste the log in your next reply
    • A copy of the log will be saved automatically to the root of the drive (typically C:\)
———-

Please read through these instructions to familarize yourself with what to expect when this tool runs

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
———-

In your next reply please post the logs created by TDSSKiller and ComboFix.
Hi YatesBros, I see that you have both AVG and Norton Security Suite on your system. Please select the one that you do not use and remove it using its uninstall feature. ———- I am reviewing your ComboFix log and will return as quickly as I can. ———- In your future responses please just cut/paste the logs into your replies. It makes it easier for me to read. Thanks. :)
Thanks Jeffce, Is it not good to have both Norton and AVG running at the same time? Do you have a preference of which one is better to use and cover virus, malware, firewall, email, etc protection?. I actually use both. Norton I get free from my Cable company and AVG I use the free version from the web.
Hi,

I hope you had a nice New Years Day! :)
———-

This is just my opinion but if they are both the free versions I would not use either. I always recommend Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials (I use this one). They are both light on resources and both are free.
Microsoft Security Essentials
Avast

Having more than one antivirus program may seem like a good idea but in reality they will work against each other and be worse for your system. Only ever use one antivirus program. Remove one or both of the antiviruses you have presently. If you remove both, be sure to install one from the links I provided above.

Are you using a wireless router? If so, the Windows firewall will be more than fine to use providing you have your router secured. :)

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Happy New Year to you also.

Thanks for your suggestions on virus protection software. I will go ahead and delete the other two and use the Microsoft one. Also I do have a wireless router and it is locked, although I from time to time use ones when traveling that are not locked. I am thinking it would be good from me to go ahead and put on a firewall. Do you have a suggestion? Here is the list this forum suggests: http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem…irus%20Scanners

I tried executing your instructions below. When I drag and drop the CFScript.txt file to the ComboFix.exe, nothing seems to happen. I do get a Firefox window with the contents of CFScript.txt displayed, but nothing seems to run. I did not mouse cursor like you said could interfere. Should I see something running?

Jim
Hi,

I am thinking it would be good from me to go ahead and put on a firewall. Do you have a suggestion?

Yes I have one that I will use if I go someplace else as well. I would recommend either of the two below but lets not do this until we have finished :)
Online Armor Free
Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free

So you are having problems with ComboFix? Please delete your copy of ComboFix using right-click >> delete and then download a fresh copy to your Desktop. Once you have the fresh copy of ComboFix please try to run the fix that I provided earlier. If you still have problems please let me know…otherwise post the new log that is created.
Same thing. I drag CFScript.txt onto ComboFix and it opens a window in Firefox with the information from CFScript.txt, but nothing happens. Is there anything i need to do to start it?
Hi YatesBros,

  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.
