I was infected by this virus today. I followed the steps here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo…7-security-2012 to remove it and it appears to have worked. I don't have any of the false security popups anymore or any other indication that something is wrong with my computer. However I want to be sure that I have actually removed everything from my computer and that I didn't inadvertently install something new with all of the programs I had to download from bleepingcomputer (is that a trustworthy site?). This is a hijackthis log, it wasn't made in safemode.

I really appreciate any help.

Bleeping Computer is one of the leading anti malware sites, along with us and many others, you can trust them 1000%

We don't use Hijackthis much anymore, we have better tools that show us more, lets check to see if that virus had a rootkit involved

Download aswMBR.exe ( 511KB ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it

Click the "Scan" button to start scan
[external image: Posted Image]

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply
[external image: Posted Image]

Download DDS from one of the links below to your desktop

Link 1
Link 2

  • Double click the tool to run it.
  • A black Screen will open, just read the contents and do nothing.
  • When the tool finishes, it will open 2 reports, DDS.txt and attach.txt
  • Copy/Paste the contents of 'DDS.txt' into your post.
  • 'attach.txt' should be zipped using Windows native zip utility and attached to your post. Compress and uncompress files (zip files)
Thanks for taking the time to help. Yeah the bleeping computer walkthrough mentioned it might have a rootkit with it so I don't want to log into anything until were pretty confident the computer is cleaned up. I replaced my name with asterisks for privacy if you're wondering whats going on with the logs. aswMBR version 0.9.9.1120 Copyright© 2011 AVAST Software Run date: 2011-12-27 16:54:31 —————————– 16:54:31.978 OS Version: Windows x64 6.1.7600 16:54:31.978 Number of processors: 2 586 0x170A 16:54:31.978 ComputerName: *****-PC UserName: ***** 16:54:33.522 Initialize success 16:54:33.647 AVAST engine defs: 11122702 16:55:20.027 Disk 0 (boot) \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 -> \Device\Ide\IAAStorageDevice-1 16:55:20.027 Disk 0 Vendor: WDC_WD16 14.0 Size: 152627MB BusType: 3 16:55:20.043 Disk 0 MBR read successfully 16:55:20.043 Disk 0 MBR scan 16:55:20.043 Disk 0 Windows 7 default MBR code 16:55:20.058 Disk 0 Partition 1 80 (A) 07 HPFS/NTFS NTFS 1500 MB offset 2048 16:55:20.074 Disk 0 Partition 2 00 07 HPFS/NTFS NTFS 141125 MB offset 3074048 16:55:20.089 Disk 0 Partition 3 00 07 HPFS/NTFS NTFS 10000 MB offset 292098048 16:55:20.089 Service scanning 16:55:21.556 Modules scanning 16:55:21.556 Disk 0 trace - The log that was produced after running ESET Online Scanner.
Alright what gives… I've got spybot, avast, and malware all running all up to date and none of them give me any indication of this. Also ran the TDSSkiller as recommended in the bleeping computer walkthrough… no sign of anything. There was no indication of anything strange after I completed the instructions given on bleeping computer. Good Morning,

All those bad files are in your Java Cache, we can clear them out

  • Click on "Start", then on "Control Panel" and then on the Java icon (looks like a coffee cup). If you do not see the icon, look to your left and click "Switch to Classic View".
  • On the "General" tab, under "Temporary Internet Files", click the "Settings" button.
  • Next, click on the "Delete Files" button.
  • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - ("Applications and Applets" and "Trace and Log Files").
  • Leave BOTH Checked
  • Click "OK" on Delete Temporary Files Window.
  • Note: This deletes all of the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the Cache.
  • Click "OK" to leave the Temporary Files Window.
  • Click "OK" to leave the Java Control Panel.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility. If you want to keep your log on info, just click on Select All and then uncheck cookies

Things running ok ?
Okay, I deleted the temporary java stuff. Ran ATF Cleaner, it deleted 46 MB. Should I stop Java from storing temporary internet files? What should I run now, I don't have any logs to give you. Everything seems to be running fine but it has seemed that way since I completed the instructions on bleeping computer.
Your Java Cache is fine, you can run ATF Cleaner now and then to just flush it out along with the other temp files and such. Not sure what your referring to by saying you updated malware ????
Sorry, should have seen how that could be confusing. Malware Antibytes the antivirus program I can no longer get it to run after I installed an update. After this infection I'm a little bit paranoid about updates so I'm not sure if theres something interfering with the program or if its just a glitch.
Hi,

No virus, a lot of people have experienced this, what you need to do is uninstall it and then run the clean program that will look for all traces if this on your system and remove it, then install a fresh copy and it should run

Please follow this sequence for MBAM removal & re-install:
1) Go to Control Panel and Program and Features
uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Exit Control Panel

2) Logoff and restart your computer

Get, save, and then run the utility at the following link
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-clean.exe

3)Logoff and restart your computer again.

4)Now, reinstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

You may download a fresh copy for the reinstall from the following link:
http://malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

Let me know how it went and how your system is behaving now ???
Okay malwarebytes is working again, scanned and it didn't find anything. No strange symptoms that I've noticed. Does it seem like the machine is clean now?
Malwarebytes is funny, I just upgraded to the new version and it worked fine . Go ahead and run DDS and post a NEW log and let me take one final look
