Here are a couple questions based again on what I've been doing the last few days.
It's time to bring the cattle home from the summer range.
The Semi-Tractor I was driving is a Freightliner with a Cat 3406 engine. It weighs in at 19,500 lbs. I was pulling a 50 ft. Wilson cattle hauler weighing 12,000 lbs.
It is 204 miles from the home place to the corrals at the summer range. On Friday, I left the corrals at the home place, in the truck, at 4 am. I arrived at the loading chute at the summer range at 9:10 am (two of the mountain passes I had to get over had snow in the road and it is a very winding route with 6% grades in many areas).
Calves are placed in separate pens from the cows inside the trailer (to avoid the larger cows from stepping on the calves during the trip), so the stock needed to be sorted for loading. With that accomplished, 36 pairs were loaded into the trailer.
I left there at 11:30 am. On the way home, I put the truck across the scales in Prineville and noted the following weights: Steering axle weighed 10,800 lbs. Driver tandems weighed 33,960 lbs and the trailer tandems weighed 32,870 lbs. I arrived home, ready to unload, at 6:58 pm.
Assuming that the calves weigh 1/3 as much as the cows - What was the average weight of the cows? Of the calves?
What was my average travel speed on each leg of the trip?
