I use Avast and Sandboxie. My mother neglected to use Sandboxie on my computer while I was away this summer on a trip. In return, my avast constantly blocks a "Win32:Rootkit-gen[Rtk]". I have over 30 entries in my Avast Virus Chest called "x". My scvhost crashes everyday about 5-15 minutes after turning my computer on. Sometimes Avast comes up and says it blocked the rootkit-gen. Then it takes a little longer to crash. the scvhost it crashes is my Windows Audio. I constantly have to restart it in the Services option under control panel. I checked on the Avast site, and they recommend using HiJackThis. I am familiar with this program, but I'm only a slightly advanced user, no where near an expert. I see nothing out of the ordinary. Oh and if I leave my computer idling for the night, I have about 8 crash notifications of scvhosts. I don't know if their all the same or not. But visual studio likes to prompt me to try to fix them, so I get little notifications. Anyway here is my HiJackThis Log: Scan saved at 6:25:34 PM, on 10/18/2011 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP3 (6.00.2900.5512) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\SbieSvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\AvastSvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast5\avastUI.exe C:\Program Files\Nero\Update\NASvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HiJackThis\HiJackThis.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe O2 - BHO: Spybot-S&D IE Protection - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: Java™ Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dll O2 - BHO: JQSIEStartDetectorImpl - {E7E6F031-17CE-4C07-BC86-EABFE594F69C} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ie\jqs_plugin.dll O3 - Toolbar: DAEMON Tools Toolbar - {32099AAC-C132-4136-9E9A-4E364A424E17} - C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Toolbar\DTToolbar.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avast5] C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast5\avastUI.exe /nogui O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SandboxieControl] "C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\SbieCtrl.exe" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe O4 - Startup: Xfire.lnk = C:\Program Files\Xfire\Xfire.exe O4 - Global Startup: hamachi.lnk = C:\Program Files\Hamachi\hamachi.exe O9 - Extra button: Research - {92780B25-18CC-41C8-B9BE-3C9C571A8263} - C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~3\Office12\REFIEBAR.DLL O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {DFB852A3-47F8-48C4-A200-58CAB36FD2A2} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Spybot - Search & Destroy Configuration - {DFB852A3-47F8-48C4-A200-58CAB36FD2A2} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @xpsp3res.dll,-20001 - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O18 - Protocol: skype-ie-addon-data - {91774881-D725-4E58-B298-07617B9B86A8} - C:\Program Files\Skype\Toolbars\Internet Explorer\skypeieplugin.dll (file missing) O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.DLL O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: Browseui preloader - {438755C2-A8BA-11D1-B96B-00A0C90312E1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\browseui.dll O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: Component Categories cache daemon - {8C7461EF-2B13-11d2-BE35-3078302C2030} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\browseui.dll O23 - Service: avast! Hi and Welcome!! :) My name is Jeff. I would be more than happy to take a look at your malware results logs and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete, download or install anything unless instructed to do so.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision. Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your Operating System and losing all your programs and data.

Having said that….Let's get going!!

In your next reply please post the logs created by DDS, GMER and aswMBR.exe :)
Sorry it took so long to reply, GMER spent over 3 hours scanning before I blue screened the first run. So I just set it up to run overnight. Didn't blue screen the second time, thankfully. I blue screened twice yesterday, which is extremely abnormal for my computer. Well I hope this helps. I think I got everything.

Hi Terrestrialx,

Good job getting me those logs. :)
———-

I need some information on some unidentified files. We will use Virustotal Please submit these files for analysis

To submit a file to VirusTotal, please click VirusTotal

copy and paste the following into the upload a file box (one at a time if more than one file is listed)

C:\Perfect World Entertainment\Forsaken World\update\game.exe

Scroll down a bit and click "send file", wait for the results and post them in your next reply.

Please note that sometimes the scans take a few minutes. Please ensure that the scan has completed and the results are complete before submitting the next sample. Also please make sure each result is clearly identified as to which sample they belong to.
———-

P2P - I see you have P2P software µTorrent installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections and possibly Identity Theft. It likely contributed to your current situation. This page will give you further information.

Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

I would strongly recommend that you uninstall these now. You can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.
———-

Please read through these instructions to familarize yourself with what to expect when this tool runs

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
———-

In your next reply please post the logs created by VirusTotal and ComboFix. :)
The Virustotal link isn't working, but "C:\Perfect World Entertainment\Forsaken World\update\game.exe" is the game I had up in the background when I ran the first test, DDS. And as for utorrent, I only run it sandboxed. I have the combofix report, as I stated before the other link refuses to load.

Hi Terrestrialx,

Please upload the following bolded files to VirScan.org. When the scans are complete please post the results into your next reply. Be sure to only upload one at a time. :)

c:\windows\system32\CleanMem.exe

c:\Nexon\Vindictus\en-US\NMService.exe
Error: returned status code 403 Forbidden I tried both files .rar and .zip. It wouldn't let me upload them. But I know what they both are. "c:\Nexon\Vindictus\en-US\NMService.exe" is an MMO I tried out awhile back. And "c:\windows\system32\CleanMem.exe" either my buddy made or he found on the web. I've been using it for years it works wonders. A lot of programs have memory leaks and it fixes the lag that is generated over time by them by flushing out your unused memory. Something like that, as I stated before I'm good with computers, not great. But my buddy is. Are we going to do anything about "08:18:05.781 File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\x **INFECTED** Win32:Confi [Wrm]" that aswMBR found. I have about 30 entries in my avast virus chest labled "x" located in system32. According to my virus chest "x" had activity at 12:30am last night. Also yesterday my avast says "xueij.exe" changed. As well as, "syxwvtv.exe" both located in system32. They're listed as trojans if that helps any. Thank you, E.T.
Hi Terrestrialx,

Thanks for the info on those files I wanted you to send to VirusTotal. As for the other files, we will get to those shortly.

Please download TDSSKiller.zip
  • Extract it to your desktop
  • Double click TDSSKiller.exe
  • Press Start Scan
    • Only if Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected
    • Then click Continue > Reboot now
  • Copy and paste the log in your next reply
    • A copy of the log will be saved automatically to the root of the drive (typically C:\)

Save this as "CFScript.txt", and as Type: All Files (*.*) in the same location as ComboFix.exe

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.
So I took a visual basics class at my college about a year ago. I tried uninstalling visual studio on my computer awhile back it still pops up everywhere though so it never fully uninstalled. My brother took the same class with me. I mentioned my sound crashing to him and he said that visual studio was the problem. He had to update his net framework to fix the crashing. He gave me the link to update. I am going to. I figured I'd let you know, in case it changes anything. I wont update it until I get the go ahead though.
