Hi Shelly46013,

The zip file is empty.

I have a suspicion as to what you may be infected with.

This tool must be ran in Normal Windows. Since the computer is heavily infected it may take some time for the tool to complete. At times it may appear to have stalled but if there is even the slightest hint of harddrive activity it is still running. Please be patient even at the points (if any) it seems stalled and let the tool run.

Make sure you download and save it directly to the C:\ drive and rename it as outlined below.

Please read through the instructions to familarize youself with what to expect when the tool runs.

It is vitally important that combofix is renamed before it is even started to download

Please download ComboFix from Link 1or Link 2 to C:\.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to C:\**

  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    -Tools->Options->Main tab
-Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".
  • During the download, before you save it to C:\, rename Combofix to svchost.exe

  • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix

-----------------------------------------------------------

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe (svchost.exe in your case) & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.[/b]

I do have a couple of questions for you... Do I need to shut off Windows Security and Do I need to disable my firewall? Also should I back up all my photos and files? I did this the other day and after working on that all and night and transferring everything to my jump drive, I idiocally DL'd hijackthis from my son's computer to my jumpdrive so I could run it on my computer and it corrupted it causing me to take it back to my son's computer to reformat the flash drive and lost everything I had already saved. After these questions are answered all systems are go unless I have to back everything up again. If so that's gonna take another day and night before I can run this. THANKYOU sooooo much for your help and quick response! Y'all are awesome for helping and when I get my paypal up and running I would gladly donate to your cause because to me it's well worth it!

Hi Shelly46013, Firewall should be disabled. By Windows Security do you mean the interface that shows which security programs you have installed. If this is what you mean then no, it doesn't need to be disabled. Only programs like antivirus and antispyware need to be disabled. It's always a good idea to backup your data if possible. With malware removal sometimes things can go wrong.

It's called window's security center and has a red sheild with a white x in the center on my tool bar. When I open it up there is option to turn off and on the Firewall, the automatic updates and a virus protection. When I click on the virus protection it states: Norton Security Suite reports that it is up to date and virus scanning is on. Antivirus helps protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. <sighs> having to back up files and pictures again! :smack: lol

No that doesn't need to be disabled. However Norton needs to be disabled.
