Hello, I have been having issues with my laptop slowing down to the point that I can't use it when the internet is up sometimes, while other times it works fine. So, I downloaded Spybot and ran that–found no issues, strangely. Then ran HijackThis scan and pressed the 'Analyze This' button. The webpage came up and when I tried to read the report analysis, it gave me this message:

Is this a website issue or my pc?

Hi, I'm not sure what to do now. I posted a topic about having issues with HijackThis and then saw the instructions. So, I downloaded OTL and ran the program as instructed and posted to my own thread. Now I see in the instructions that you only respond to topics with zero responses…short of starting a new topic, what should I do? I'm sorry, I'm not a blogger and didn't even realize you had a whole section of instructions on what to do before posting and how to post! :( Please help!
:welcome:

Heather, please reply to this topic only and do not start any new topics. You have posted so many scans and what not its confusing, lets start over. First explain to me exactly what your experiencing to make you think your infected.

Then run both these programs and post the logs

Download aswMBR.exe ( 511KB ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it

Click the "Scan" button to start scan
[external image: Posted Image]

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

Download DDS from one of the links below to your desktop

Link 1
Link 2

  • Double click the tool to run it.
  • A black Screen will open, just read the contents and do nothing.
  • When the tool finishes, it will open 2 reports, DDS.txt and attach.txt
  • Copy/Paste the contents of 'DDS.txt' into your post.
  • 'attach.txt' should be zipped using Windows native zip utility and attached to your post. Compress and uncompress files (zip files)
Thank you, Ken. And I apologize for the confusion. I think my system has been infected because it has become significantly slower since the day I got it (used laptop Evo N610c) two years ago, to the point that I often have to actually turn it off to regain use of it when I've been connected to the internet for a while. Yes, I realize I own a piece of carp** computer, but as I said, it has become much slower since I got it–same computer, different year. Firefox will literally freeze up and become unresponsive. (I use Firefox exclusively as a browser.) I'm looking for work, so I'm on the internet all day, every day. The computer has become the limiting factor in my search–no good! My brother is in IT (out of town) and he had me run CCleaner about a week and a half ago. That seemed to help a little, but the periodic slowdowns are still happening. So, I ran the HijackThis program and…you know the rest. Ok, as requested, I ran the aswMBR.exe and here's the log: aswMBR version 0.9.8.986 Copyright© 2011 AVAST Software Run date: 2011-10-07 11:17:32 —————————– 11:17:32.075 OS Version: Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 11:17:32.075 Number of processors: 1 586 0x209 11:17:32.075 ComputerName: HOMEPC UserName: 11:17:53.526 Initialize success 11:25:25.355 AVAST engine defs: 11100700 11:25:29.071 Disk 0 (boot) \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 -> \Device\Ide\IdeDeviceP0T0L0-3 11:25:29.071 Disk 0 Vendor: HTS424040M9AT00 MA2OA72A Size: 38154MB BusType: 3 11:25:31.124 Disk 0 MBR read successfully 11:25:31.124 Disk 0 MBR scan 11:25:31.394 Disk 0 Windows XP default MBR code 11:25:31.544 Disk 0 scanning sectors +78125040 11:25:31.845 Disk 0 scanning C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers 11:25:49.420 Service scanning 11:25:52.725 Modules scanning 11:26:01.607 Disk 0 trace - called modules: 11:26:01.627 ntoskrnl.exe CLASSPNP.SYS disk.sys ACPI.sys hal.dll atapi.sys intelide.sys PCIIDEX.SYS NDIS.sys rtl8185.sys 11:26:01.637 1 nt!IofCallDriver -> \Device\Harddisk0\DR0[0x8237cab8] 11:26:01.637 3 CLASSPNP.SYS[f8576fd7] -> nt!IofCallDriver -> \Device\00000073[0x823dcf18] 11:26:01.667 5 ACPI.sys[f84ed620] -> nt!IofCallDriver -> \Device\Ide\IdeDeviceP0T0L0-3[0x8237e940] 11:26:02.288 AVAST engine scan C:\WINDOWS 11:26:06.174 AVAST engine scan C:\WINDOWS\system32 11:28:37.692 AVAST engine scan C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers 11:28:55.537 AVAST engine scan C:\Documents and Settings\Home User 11:29:37.508 Disk 0 MBR has been saved successfully to "C:\Documents and Settings\Home User\Desktop\MBR.dat" 11:29:37.598 The log file has been saved successfully to "C:\Documents and Settings\Home User\Desktop\aswMBR.txt" aswMBR version 0.9.8.986 Copyright© 2011 AVAST Software Run date: 2011-10-07 11:17:32 —————————– 11:17:32.075 OS Version: Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 11:17:32.075 Number of processors: 1 586 0x209 11:17:32.075 ComputerName: HOMEPC UserName: 11:17:53.526 Initialize success 11:25:25.355 AVAST engine defs: 11100700 11:25:29.071 Disk 0 (boot) \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 -> \Device\Ide\IdeDeviceP0T0L0-3 11:25:29.071 Disk 0 Vendor: HTS424040M9AT00 MA2OA72A Size: 38154MB BusType: 3 11:25:31.124 Disk 0 MBR read successfully 11:25:31.124 Disk 0 MBR scan 11:25:31.394 Disk 0 Windows XP default MBR code 11:25:31.544 Disk 0 scanning sectors +78125040 11:25:31.845 Disk 0 scanning C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers 11:25:49.420 Service scanning 11:25:52.725 Modules scanning 11:26:01.607 Disk 0 trace - called modules: 11:26:01.627 ntoskrnl.exe CLASSPNP.SYS disk.sys ACPI.sys hal.dll atapi.sys intelide.sys PCIIDEX.SYS NDIS.sys rtl8185.sys 11:26:01.637 1 nt!IofCallDriver -> \Device\Harddisk0\DR0[0x8237cab8] 11:26:01.637 3 CLASSPNP.SYS[f8576fd7] -> nt!IofCallDriver -> \Device\00000073[0x823dcf18] 11:26:01.667 5 ACPI.sys[f84ed620] -> nt!IofCallDriver -> \Device\Ide\IdeDeviceP0T0L0-3[0x8237e940] 11:26:02.288 AVAST engine scan C:\WINDOWS 11:26:06.174 AVAST engine scan C:\WINDOWS\system32 11:28:37.692 AVAST engine scan C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers 11:28:55.537 AVAST engine scan C:\Documents and Settings\Home User 11:29:37.508 Disk 0 MBR has been saved successfully to "C:\Documents and Settings\Home User\Desktop\MBR.dat" 11:29:37.598 The log file has been saved successfully to "C:\Documents and Settings\Home User\Desktop\aswMBR.txt" 11:32:47.221 AVAST engine scan C:\Documents and Settings\All Users 11:34:10.070 Scan finished successfully 11:48:49.705 Disk 0 MBR has been saved successfully to "C:\Documents and Settings\Home User\Desktop\MBR.dat" 11:48:49.755 The log file has been saved successfully to "C:\Documents and Settings\Home User\Desktop\aswMBR.txt" And I ran the dds program. Hello Heather,

aswMBR checks for the latest Rootkit type of infections and it found none. I see a possible bad file on your system, but lets do a few more things.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility. If you want to keep your log on info, just click on Select All and then uncheck cookies

Then run Malwarebytes

Please download Malwarebytes from Here or Here

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Post the report please
Ok, here's what Malwarebytes notepad file reads: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.51.2.1300 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 7895 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 10/7/2011 1:27:36 PM mbam-log-2011-10-07 (13-27-35).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 184965 Time elapsed: 6 minute(s), 43 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 3 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusDisableNotify (PUM.Disabled.SecurityCenter) -> Bad: (1) Good: (0) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. Lets do this

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
I think I have everything turned off with the exception of the windows firewall (turned that back on to go online). But, would you mind checking to be sure before I run the first program? I tried pasting the image directly into this window, but no luck, and also tried attaching a word file with the image pasted, also with no luck. I didn't have anything running when I recorded this list except for Task Manager, but it looks like there are still a lot of extra programs listed. So, that's why I thought this would be a good idea. Please bear with me if it wasn't! Here's the list: taskmgr.exe hpqgpc01.exe hpqbam08.exe hpqste08.exe alg.exe hpqtra08.exe ctfmon.exe atiptaxx.exe ati2evxx.exe jusched.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe MDM.exe jqs.exe svchost.exe mDNSResponder.exe svchost.exe spoolsv.exe svchost.exe wscntfy.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe ati2evxx.exe lsass.exe services.exe winlogon.exe csrss.exe smss.exe explorer.exe System System Idle Process
Yes, I was going to do that. Just wanted to be sure I had EVERYTHING turned off before running your program–does it look good?
Ok, done! Here's the log file:
