Hi Guys,

I have a very new computer, and it has been great until lately. When I open Mozilla /Firefox , the browser opens quickly, but I cannot go from website to website. The connection just keeps running, and sometimes stops. IE works fine, mozilla chrome seems to work fine. Is it just a firefox problem or a brower hijack. Please take a look and see what you can do for me. Thanks
Here is my Hijack this log

Hello Kitzie and :welcome:
I'm RedCar92 and my name is Bill, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

  • Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Read the entire procedure
  • It is important to perform ALL actions in sequence.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with me till you're given the all clear. Malware removal can be stressful but we will clean it.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone.
  • Don't attempt to clean your computer with any tools other than the ones I ask you to use during the cleanup process.

Please be advised, as I am still in training, all my replies to you will be checked for accuracy by one of our experts to ensure that I am giving you the best possible advise, this will be a team effort.
This may cause a delay, but I will do my best to keep it as short as possible.

Please bear with me, I will post back to you as soon as I can.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe) every time you run them
with Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.
Greetings kitzie,
  • Please download aswMBR to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run it
  • If asked, accept the AVAST virus definition download.
  • Click the Scan button to start the scan
  • On completion of the scan, click the  save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply.

Next

Please download DDS from LINK 1 or LINK 2
and save it to your desktop.

  • These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe) every time you run them
  • With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
Save both reports to your desktop.
Please include the contents of the following in your reply using Copy / Paste:
DDS.txt & Attach.txt

Logs to Post:

Greetings kitzie,
I see in your logs that you have Malwarebytes installed on your system.
  • Double click on MalwareBytes, mbam.exe to run it.
  • If Malwarebytes asks to update click on yes, if you are not asked.
  • Click on the Update tab then click on Check for updates.
  • After updates finish, click on the Scanner tab. Select Perform quick scan.
  • Click on Scan button.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Below is an excellent site that will take you through checking and setting your Firewall, that may be preventing FireFox from working.

ok here is the first log ; Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.51.2.1300 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 7891 Windows 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421 10/6/2011 9:40:23 PM mbam-log-2011-10-06 (21-40-23).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 181075 Time elapsed: 2 minute(s), 28 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected) I ran the next one, but there was no export button to click on to get a report, however, no threats were found. I changed the Firefox proxy settings I ran into a little different wording in changing the firewall settings, but I think I put mozilla/firefox on the allow list ok. It seems to be running pretty good, some sites open quickly, but others seems to load and load and never connect, ie yahoo would not connect. will continue to browse and see what happens. thanks
Bill, I also tried running FF in safe mode. It really did not help. This morning, FF is running very slow and still not connecting. I do not have that trouble in IE. or in Google Chrome. Maybe I should just remove Mozilla, what do you think? Its not done this before, sites used to open almost automatically, so I am very frustrated. Thanks again for all you do……later
Hello Kitzie
I am not seeing any malware problems in your logs. Removing Firefox is a good option, considering IE9 and Chrome work.
Let's try this, remove and reinstall make sure to remove my Firefox personal data and customizations. Here is a good site for removing FF. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_firefox.
After completely removing Firefox download a fresh version from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/ and install.

Let me know results please
I uninstalled Firefox and all my settings. I downloaded and installed from the site you gave me. The browser window opens immediately, but the sites just keep connecting…..connecting…..connecting. It has only done this, since they had the update. Is it possible to install a previous version of it?
