Hello, I have had a series of strange things happening on my Windows XP computer. Malware bytes keeps finding something called exploit.drop every time I run it. It appears on multiple users on the PC. MS Essentials has found and removed zbot, zbot.gen!y, blacoleRef.c, CVE, Exploit!Java/CVE-2010-0840.EW, Obfuscator.JM, TrojanClicke:HTML/Iframe.J and on and on. I have removed all browsers with the exception of Internet explorer. I have disabled Java add ons. I have cleaned out all the history on all browsers on all users. Still everytime I logon to the PC, the send/receive lights go constantly on the cable modem and the PC runs. Now it does not always shutdown all the way. I am on my MAC right now and often times I receive a message from Google asking me for a captcha because of the number of inquiries received from this IP address. I need your help to resolve. Thank you in advance. MagCindy
Hi MagCindy,

:welcome:

My name is NoodleTech. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Do not delete anything unless instructed to.
  • DO NOT use tools such as ComboFix without supervision.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clean.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
Note to Vista and Windows 7 users:
  • These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe) every time you run them
  • These tools MUST be run With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments,  attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scrolling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries

Download aswMBR.exe ( 1.8mb ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it

[external image: Posted Image]
Click the "Scan" button to start scan

[external image: Posted Image]
On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

===================================================

Please include the following in your next post:
  • DDS log
  • GMER log
  • aswMBR log
HELLO AND THANK YOU!

Here is the DDS.TXT. I am attaching the attach.txt, the gmer.txt and the aswmbr log. One note, when I ran GMER the first time, I got a Windows Shutdown Blue Screen. At that point I had to reboot and came up in Safe Mode to run the rest of your instructions. (According to Microsoft, this is a failed driver error. I have done nothing to address that error.)

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
I did the updates and MS Essentials immediately said it detected the following Exploit:SWF/Blacole.A and recommends removing immediately. I have detected this before but the removal does not seem to work. Should I remove or run the new TDSSKiller? I'm always suspicious now of any downloads.
Sorry, I'm not sure what happened, but Essentials removed the file. I was holding the window open for your response. Should I trust the new zip file and run TDSSKiller?
I'm not sure. This is what it said it found: Exploit:SWF/Blacole.A and this is what the MS Security web page says about it: Exploit:SWF/Blacole.A (?) I ran TDS Killer and it wanted to reboot. The PC would not shutdown so I powered it off. When it came back up, something called Cloud Security (cannot remember the name exactly) started running so I shut the PC down. I am now in Safe Mode and here is the log from TDSKiller. The funny thing is that there are several other logs from earlier in the evening, but this was the first time I actually ran the program. I'm not sure the shutdown/restart/clean worked since the PC did not shutdown properly.
