CatByte Thanks for reply. Probably last message for a while due to work trip. Did as instructed and uninstalled Nvidea graphics driver and downloaded new one. But when I went to download/ run Sweeper, I found the following mesaage on link provided: "Attention - Guru3D Driver Sweeper has been discontinued as such you will not find any download links here any longer." Regards Pete
CatByte I'm back. Downloaded Driver Sweeper as instructed and installed it. However, it fails to run. I downloaded from three alternative sites and while it goes through set up procedure OK, it does nor run. Is something stopping it from running? Regards Pete
I'm not familiar with that program to be honest, I ran your situation past our tech experts and that was the advice given,

but let's take a different approach then,

please try the following:

Use msconfig and temporarily turn off all non-microsoft services and all startup items and reboot - are you still getting the error pop-up about the driver?

If it no longer pops up, then start enabling the services in msconfig till you can identify the offender.

To try and repair nvidia

Uninstall the Nvidia display driver software and any other associated Nvidia software that goes with the video card. There can be up to 6 items installed along with the nvidia drivers.

Then, reboot into safe mode. Go to a command prompt and type: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit ENTER.

Then type start devmgmt.msc and hit ENTER.

In device manager, click View -> Show hidden devices.

Expand the Display adapters node and delete everything in there. Some items may not disappear, and the system may ask to reboot - do not let it reboot.

Delete everything in the display adapters node, ignore if it disappears from the list or not, and then reboot to normal mode.

The system will redetect some hardware. Note if the error message still pops up or not during this startup.

If it doesn't, wait for the system to finish detecting any new hardware and reboot one more time and make another note if the error message pops up or not.

Then reinstall the Nvidia software and reboot again. Now see if the error message comes up.

Check device manager, and see if anything is flagged. If nothing is flagged and no error message, then great. Otherwise, please tell me exactly what is flagged.
CatByte As always thanks for your great assistance. Did as instructed and managed to track down the cause of the error pop up about the driver. It was a startup item with name 'TBPanel', file is listed as: c:\Program Files\EXPERTool\TBPanel.exe I have no idea what it is and I have not reactivated it. The rebooted pc in safe mode, however, did not manage to carry out your instruction: "Go to a command prompt and type: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit ENTER" I tried to go to START - RUN and type in the command but it did not work. Can you kindly advise how I can access a comand prompt. Regards Pete
sorry - I gave you terrible instructions, my apologies (I wasn't quite awake :P)

Go to Start > Run > type cmd to open a command window

now you can copy/paste the following at the command prompt

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

> hit Enter

now copy/paste start devmgmt.msc at the command prompt > hit enter, this will open device manager

follow the rest of the instructions in device manager

once done with the command window > type EXIT at the command prompt to close the window
CatByte Thanks for your clear instructions. These were carried out. When I restart pc I get the following: 1. Pop Up Box Daemon Tools Lite This program requires at least Windows 2000 with SPTD1.56 or higher. Kernel debugger must be actvated 2. System Configuration Utility pop up You have made changes…. Clicking [OK] takes you System Configuration Utility showing start up files, services, etc. As advised in my previous post I did not reactivate 'TBPanel', file is listed as: c:\Program Files\EXPERTool\TBPanel.exe I also get a message from the toolbar (bottom right on screen) advising New Hardware Found, clicking on it takes you to install wizard of Nvidea GeForce 8400 GS When I try to install I get to the stage where it states "The file 'nvinfo.pb' on Nvidea Windows XP (32 bit) Driver Library Installation Disk 1 is needed", indicate path. I cancel as do not have any disks or cannot find path. Thanks. Pete
Pete,

I've tried to hang in there and see this through to the end, but I'm out of my comfort zone with the pesky tech issues that you have remaining, I'm sorry to have to do this but I need to pass you off to my expert tech colleagues and allow them to continue with the remaining issues.

Our tech's are extremely talented and I'm sure they'll be able to resolve the remaining issues.

Please make a new thread in the Windows Forum and link back to this thread so they can see what we have done

Explain in as much detail as possible all the outstanding issues.

When everything is fixed come back to this thread and let me know as we have a tool cleanup routine to undergo.

Good luck
