A few months ago I had a major malware infection, which was thankfully taken care of. However, since the infection, I have never had access to my task manager program and certain other commands (plus my computer has been very slow and I've had various kinds of errors)! My malware bytes anti-malware scanner picks up over 60 "threats", but it never gets rid of any of them!

On your next reply please post :
DDS log
GMER log
Checkup log

Let me know if you have any problems in performing with the steps above or any questions you may have.

Good Day!
Something went badly wrong. I did the DDS, had the text ready and the attachment ready. Then I did the GMER, I unchecked the boxes I was instructed to (the "Show all" box was already unchecked so I didn't touch that), then I hit "Scan". My computer got the blue screen so I had to reboot. Please notify me if there are any steps I missed or what I should do before proceeding with attempting the GMER scan again.
I need you to try and check only both "Sections" and "C:\" ; leaving all others unchecked.

If that fails, please try to run it in Safe Mode and again with the same settings as above.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode
The blue screen occurred again on my second attempt, so I tried safe mode. The initial scan it was running didn't scan much of anything, and the scan I selected after checking sections and "C" only came up with a "No malware/root kits detected", and when I opted to save a log, nothing was on it. :pullhair:
Go ahead and post DDS log.

Meanwhile, we will use the alternative.

Scan With RootKitUnHooker

  • Please choose one link and download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your desktop.
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
  • Now double-click on RKUnhookerLE.exe to run it.
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan.
  • Check (Tick) Drivers and Stealth
  • Uncheck the rest. then click OK
  • When prompted to Select Disks for Scan, make sure C:\ is checked and click OK
  • Wait till the scanner has finished and then click File > Save Report.
  • Save the report somewhere where you can find it. Click Close.
  • Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in your next reply.

Note** you may get the following warning, just click OK and continue.

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

Apologies for asking, but what's that? I ran the scan, and was not given a prompt on which disk to select. The program simply switched to Stealth code and gave the report there.
Sorry for not being clearer. I was referring to my second post after the MBAM log.

Refer to the ComboFix User's Guide

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs

    **********************************************
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
