Google redirects, hangups, "not responding" using mouse and cursor, slow performance, unwanted ads. Ran Spybot & removed several registry entries entitled "coupon"(???). Using AVG-free. Ad Aware will not complete its scan. I am listing responses from OTL, run minutes ago. After screen lockup–as hourglass continues–manual reboot helps. Often, "Con-Alt-Del" will not work. Help, please. s

Please read through these instructions to familarize yourself with what to expect when this tool runs

Refer to the ComboFix User's Guide

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs

    **********************************************
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Good Day!
Hey Conspire. Enclosed is the info you requested. The re-run log from "aswMBR" I was not able to save, as when I clicked "FIX" & it seemed to 'work', the computer froze & I had to manually shut it down. When I rebooted, I opened aswMBR & copied the new screen which I am enclosing(I did NOT rerun it again.). Also enclosed is the log from COMBOFIX.
Thanks, and I will be using the computer and report back as to how it is running.

Let me know if you have any problems in performing with the steps above or any questions you may have.

Good Day!
Thank you again for all your help. I have followed your last instructions and am enclosing the 2 text-file contents as you requested, one from MBAM and the other one from ESET. BTW, I noticed on the ESET log that 3 threats it found were not cleaned(?). What should I do, if anything, with these? shadow5 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.51.1.1800 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 7614 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13 8/30/2011 5:00:04 PM mbam-log-2011-08-30 (17-00-04).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 163005 Time elapsed: 2 minute(s), 50 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ESETSmartInstaller@High as downloader log: all ok # version=7 # OnlineScannerApp.exe=1.0.0.1 # OnlineScanner.ocx=1.0.0.6528 # api_version=3.0.2 # EOSSerial=5159d9d1d611b449baeba9bcb0d7047a # end=finished # remove_checked=false # archives_checked=true # unwanted_checked=true # unsafe_checked=false # antistealth_checked=true # utc_time=2011-08-31 12:40:26 # local_time=2011-08-30 08:40:26 (-0500, Eastern Daylight Time) # country="United States" # lang=1033 # osver=5.1.2600 NT Service Pack 3 # compatibility_mode=1024 16777175 100 0 55035864 55035864 0 0 # compatibility_mode=8192 67108863 100 0 0 0 0 0 # scanned=164256 # found=3 # cleaned=0 # scan_time=12521 C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\14\42b0bb4e-28c0d047 multiple threats (unable to clean) 00000000000000000000000000000000 I C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\46\6e1077ae-3cfc2ae7 multiple threats (unable to clean) 00000000000000000000000000000000 I C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\60\20a7c07c-4d7f1a45 multiple threats (unable to clean) 00000000000000000000000000000000 I

MICROSOFT UPDATES
It is very important that you get all of the critical updates for your Operating System and Internet Explorer. Keeping your OS and browser up to date will help make you less susceptible to attacks by Trojans and viruses. Please go to Microsoft and download all the critical updates to help prevent possible re-infection.

Passwords
It is good security practice to change your passwords to all your online accounts on a fairly regular basis, this is especially true after an infection. Refer to this Microsoft article
Strong passwords: How to create and use them and consider a password keeper, to keep all your passwords safe.

SPYWARE PREVENTION
This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. In light of your recent problem, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please read these well written articles:
To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them:
  • WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:
  • Green to go
  • Yellow for caution
  • Red to stop

WOT has an add-on available for both Firefox and IE.

  • SpywareBlaster prevents the installation of ActiveX-based malware, blocks cookies, and restricts the actions of "bad" sites. See tutorial here

Follow this list and keep your antivirus program and antispyware programs updated and scan with them on a regular basis. By doing so, your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck.

Do you have any questions or problems to ask? Please do not hesitate to do so.

**Please respond this one more time to ensure it is resolved and close this topic.
