hello, i have a windows xp home edition. it shows sometimes a stop with blue screen. error stop: c0000218 (mostly) sometimes other ones. i just did a system recovery (the one installed on the pc) but stil it didn't help. ps: i wrote this from my phone.
Hi and welcome to the WTT forums….Sorry to hear of the problem with your computer.
It's never a good situation when you get this type of error message…and quite often, it ends up necessary to format the hard drive and reinstal Windows and your applications and copy across all your important stuff from your back ups. you then are likely to end up doing a lot of Windows and other updates!

If you have made a disc image using Ghost, Paragon, Acronis or one of the free disc imaging applications…this may be a good time to consider using it, when you should be up and running again in less time than it takes to walk the dog!

If you don't have a disc image then you can use the recovery partition that is often included in your hard drive to restore your computer to its "Factory" or "out of the box" condition. I can't tell you how to do this as you have not provided any details of your computer, it's make and model number or operating system used. However your operators manual should provide details.

If you don't have a "Recovery Partition" (remember some are hidden from Windows by design) then you can usually obtain Restore discs from the manufacturers for a nominal sum and these will do the job.

Remember that these Restore Partitions or discs initiate (usually) a destructive process that will delete all your stuff (all your photos emails address books, music, videos everything on your computer…(YES EVERYTHING) and put it back to its "out of the box" state, so make sure before you start that your back up is 100%, accurate, comprehensive, up to date, reproducible and with an extra copy kept safe on removable media and kept securely offsite.

It is sometimes possible to rebuild the damaged or corrupted Registry hives that often cause this type of problem, without having to restore your Computer or "format and reinstall", but it's not a particularly straightforward job and there is no guarantee of success.
However take a look here for details on how to do it, particularly post 11

Good luck and post back if you need any amplification or clarification.

hello, i don't get everything what u mean (i am a noob) but i think you mean the cd to install or restore the pc. but know (after the system restore) the pc can open but for 10-15 min after that it reoots with stop: 0x000077 kernel_something_something error. i tried almost everything searched everywhere like i used tools lik ccleaner etc but it didn't work. after i used the cd of windows to restore it with chksdk /r but it says "failed to check the partitions" or couldn't find autochk.exe, so i cant check anything. medion 2200 i think? ps the problem now is error 0x000077
Hi, If you could clarify please the following:

after i used the cd of windows to restore it with chksdk /r

1 is this the "restore that you mentioned in your first post?
that is to say:

just did a system recovery (the one installed on the pc)

or did you do something else?
2 If you did something else to "restore your computer please advise what you did.
3 Do you have a disc image that you made earlier when the machine was running well?
4 Do you have a Microsoft Windows XP installation disc for your computer? (not a copied disc?
5 Do you have a manufacturers Recovery disc(s)?
6 Do you have a complete back up copy of all your important stuff ( music ,documents, videos, emails etc. ( everything that is importnat to you) kept safe on removable media
7 Can you access your photos. music ,docs etc at the moment?
8 Have you used memtest to check your memory modules if not then please do so…instructions here:
http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
NOTE you must burn the .iso as an image… a copy will nit work ( IMGBurn is good for this, available from here:
http://www.imgburn.com/
9 As you are having difficulty running chkdsk /r then it's worth using the manufacturers disc checking utility to see if your hard drive is a problem….. utilities available from here:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic7602.html
Let us know how you get on
Regards

1 the recovery with the cd is just restore with the legal windows recovery cd, the other one going back in time (i don't know the word for that 2 no 3 no never did actually i don't know what it is 4 yes (official one) 5 yes, both in one cd (windows instal cd) 6 can i do that on an usb to and do i also have to put program files and windows stuff with it. if i do a re-install will it solve all my problems including my slow pc. if yes can you help me with re-installing my pc. 7 yes but only 10-15 minutes 8 i don't get what you mean 9 i already used the manufactures cd but it said hard drive checking failed after checking or autochk.exe failed something ps: how can i solve the stop: 0x000077, only with re-installing or is there also something else
Hi Thanks for your responses, it makes the position much easier for me to diagnose. 1 The first thing to do is to back up (copy to removable media…USB drive or USB memory stick is fine) everything that is important to you on your computer, 2 Make sure you have a note of all your Application's serial/product key numbers (including the one for Windows itself) and have all your application installation discs kept safely together with any downloaded application executable installation files. Don't forget all your user names, passwords emails address books Favorites etc….when you have finished this check that the information you have backed up, copied, is reproducible and accurate… 3 You need to check that your memory modules and your hard drive are all working satisfactorily so as soon as you are happy that you have backed up (copied) everything that is important to you to removable media, then please follow the directions in my earlier post …. 8 and 9 (memtest and the manufacturers hard drive testing utility) Let us know when the back up is complete and the results from the two tests …memtest and hard drive test) Regards paws,

ps: how can i solve the stop: 0x000077, only with re-installing or is there also something else

there's no guarantee a re-install of your os will cure your problem, that's why paws is trying to help you find out exactly where the problem is, until you know where the problem is your not going to be able to fix it, it may be a hardware problem like memory or hard drive or it may be a software problem to do with the os.

so my advice is to follow the links in 8 and 9 then to run the checks on your memory and hard drive, post back with the results and let paws advise you from there.

sorry paws, failed to see your reply before i posted.
hello, i can do that mem test know but i can't find the right utillity. and why actually do i hqve to do a test? AND WILL IT HELP TO RE INSTALL THE PC SO NO ERROR WILL ANY MORE BE. ps i am really stressed and i will post the results 4 hours later because i have to go to somewhere regards, pc.problems
hello, today i tried to do what you said so i opened it but it every time gets till the windows logo and reboots after it stays at pentium 4 logo forever! please help!!! ps i heard of somebody that re-instaling would, is that true?
Hi, if its not a hardware fault, then Yes reinstalling your operating system and applications may well be the answer to the problem. However if your memory is bad or the hard drive is bad then reinstalling wont help…. To find out if its the memory or hard drive that is at fault then you will need to follow the steps listed at point 8 and 9 and boot from the CD's that you have created. However before you do anything else check that your back up (copy) of everything that is important to you is 100%..comprehensive, accurate and reproducible, with an extra copy kept safely on removable media and offsite..this should be your first priority. You will need to ensure that you have all your application discs….. for example MS Office etc and or all the other applications that you use, as its not feasible to reinstall them without either the discs or the downloaded executables…(you cant just copy from your backups….. unless you made a disc image…..) Let us know when your back up is 100% complete and advise us the results from the memtest and hard drive checks and we can then advise you best how to proceed. Regards paws
greets, i am now re-installing but the thing that bothers me is that when i did this, the c: partition wasn't named boot, but unknown and had 93459 mb space of which 93458 was free :pullhair: . about step 8 and 9 i never made a file on cd so i can't check  ps: i can't make cds
what are you using to post your replies here??

if you can't make any cd's then you might be able to get away with using a usb drive to boot from but this will depend on if your pc allows you to boot from usb devices.

can't make a back up or even login to my pc.
pleaäaaaazzzzzz help me with this

thats because you started re-installing the os..

i am now re-installing but the thing that bothers me is that when i did this, the c: partition wasn't named boot,

it's going to be really really hard to recover your data now, if it's even possible, and will need you now to make a boot cd/usb drive of a live os and run a recovery program, your also going to need a backup hard drive to put the recovered files onto and that's if your pc will let you.

we still don't know if you have any hardware problems..

why did it not complete the re-install anyway??

are you saying that my pc died or my files? if my files it doesn't matter, if my pc it does. and i ofcourse know that windows doesn't start if i am re-installing, but this happened therefore that's the reason wyy i reinstalled because first it didn't start. sorry grammar mistake. i am still reinstalng at send time NOT FINISHED YET ps i write from my phone
