Techs:

I mistakenly went directly onto AOL using their app. With that it loaded a popup that opens every minute or so regrading a security installation. I've since deleted AOL but not the cabinet files. Can you help? Thanks. Hijack This log is below.

The GMER log is excessively long. What part of that do you NEED to see?

Could you attach it?

I also need to see your Extras.txt log. It's in C:\_OTL
conspire:

The GMER log is too long to post. . . to long to post here in entirety, so when I went to cut it into quarters in an effort to post, the very first attempt said the post was still too long. All was thus time wasted, so if there is a part of it you MUST have, I'll parse that out for you. Otherwise, we need to configure the statement and run another GMER scan reducing the scanned data so we can post it.

All the logs posted so far seems overwhelming enough to find the cause of one annoying and potentially dangerous security popup. Are they not useful?

Extras log below.

< End of report >
I'm sorry that I have wasted your time. The logs are useful but we need GMER to detect the presence of rootkit which OTL doesn't have this capability. Which brought to my suggestion asking if you could attach the GMER log. If you click More Options under quick reply box, you will see this Attachment column just beneath the reply box. If the GMER log size is too big, please upload it to Megaupload

For what is worth, we need all these information to get a better picture of your computer so that we can decide what tools to use. Please be rest assured that there is no personal information is obtained during the course of diagnosis and fixing process.

Let me know if you have any questions. :)
conspire. This popup seems such a lightweight issue . . . no time wasted unless something was not really needed. Many thanks for clarifying with the excellent follow up information. Yes, GMER is massive for posting purposes here, and attaching failed (file too large), sent via megaupload . . . "Gmer.txt" "GMER scan for Conspire." paultpa 11 aug 11
It does seem a very light case but I just wanted to be sure and It is quite unusual that we get such massive amount of lines in a log but that did help. Thanks.

Let me know how this runs after this fix.

Run OTL.exe
  • Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

    :OTL
    [2006/01/02 19:04:30 | 000,010,920 | —- | M] () – C:\aolconnfix.exe
    [2006/01/02 19:04:30 | 000,001,039 | —- | M] () – C:\aolconnfix.txt
    O4 - HKLM..\Run: [HostManager] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1188073082\ee\aolsoftware.exe (America Online, Inc.)

    :Commands
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [EMPTYTEMP]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot when it is done
  • Then post Fix OTL log as well as a new OTL log by rerunning it after reboot without custom scans script.
After posting those scans all secrets are certainly gone. Tasks done. First log is with custom scan script, second without. As for how it runs, I'll know within minutes. And so far no popup. Excellent results, Conspire. Many thanks, your ball.
