I do a Spyware Terminator scan every night and last night the scan showed Genome Trojans. Genome - 25, Genome - 99, Genome - 44 & Genome - 100. I'm not sure what to do. :pullhair: It looks like some of those are in the os/root or something like that. I will paste that part of the report that shows the Trojans. The whole report is 5 pages, I'm not sure if you need all of that. I was going to try and quarantine them but I didn't want to mess up my computer so I thought I'd check with you guys first to see what I should do. Please help!!!! Thank you! Real quick….. I just realized something. I am testing a printer and they had me download a firmware file(some fixes) – it was either yesterday or the day before. When looking over the scan report again I'm wondering if the Trojans in between the *** (or even all of them) might have something to do with that download I did. It caught my eye because of where it says something about FAXPATCH and TELNET. I had to download a file, put it on a jump drive, then put it in the printer for an update. I wasn't really thinking about it but I really don't think I need to have that on my computer. But, can I just delete that file? I would think so but I thought I'd check first. And do you think that would remove those Trojans if I did. If that might even be the problem or part of the problem. That's the only thing I've downloaded lately. I just thought of this and figured I'd let you know in case it might help.

Thanks!
Actually, since I moved the firmware update from my computer to the jump drive it shouldn't be on my computer any more, should it? Or do somethings still stay on my computer? Sorry to bother you again, I was just thinking about that. Also, I have an update that wants to install (the little yellow shield icon on the bottom task bar to the right)(probably from Microsoft), should I go ahead and do the update or should I wait until I get this other taken care of first? The only thing, if I wait sometimes it will automatically update. Sorry for throwing so much at you. Thanks.
Hi candi7,

Please download DDS from either of these links

LINK 1
LINK 2

and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

———-

Please download aswMBR to your desktop.

  • Double click the aswMBR icon to run it.
Vista and Windows 7 users right click the icon and choose "Run as administrator".
  • Click the Scan button to start scan.
  • When it finishes, press the save log button, save the logfile to your desktop and post its contents in your next reply.

In your next reply please post both the logs created by DDS and the log created by aswMBR. :)
:smack: Well, I tried doing as you asked. I downloaded the DDS to my desktop. I clicked on the icon and a box came up to start the scan so I clicked start and nothing else, the scan started right away. The little ####'s went across the screen about 3/4 of the way then stopped. It said the scan shouldn't take more than 3 minutes, well I left it sit over night, about 7-8 hours and it was in the same place. I remember when I had a virus/ some problems before and I wrote in for some help I was asked to do the same thing. I remember the DDS name well because of the same thing happening. We spent a week or more just trying to get the DDS to work. Well, we never did. They had me do another scan instead. I'm not sure if there is any way you can go back and see when I had this problem the last time. When I got your reply and I read your notes, I got a little nervous when I seen the DDS but figured I'd give it a try and hope maybe things were different now but no such luck. So, I'm not sure what to do now. Also, yesterday I did a Spybot scan and a Malwarebytes scan but nothing showed up on either of those. But its still showing on the Spyware Terminator scan. And, I still have that little yellow shield down in the lower right task bar. I believe its some kind of a Microsoft update. Can I go ahead and install it and restart my computer? I think it already installed the one I was asking about yesterday because most of the day it kept asking me to restart my computer. Well, I missed it the one time and it restarted but the little yellow shield is back again.
Well this is really weird! Last night/this mornings scan doesn't show those Trojans any more. The scan didn't show anything but when I looked thru the report I seen this ….. Threat Files : G:\Config.Msi\357eee4.rbf : G:\System Volume Information\_restore{76D333FC-8467-467F-BF58-B330FF9BE505}\RP356\A0047283.msi : Unless those are something really minor and not worth worring about. But it does say something (the last one) - Trojan.GenericFF-1. But on the main ending page of the scan it says " No Threats Found " This is pretty weird. Unless, I wonder if that update yesterday did something. The past few days or so my computer did seem a little slow but this morning it seems to be alright. Sorry to keep bothering you but I thought I should let you know. Thanks!
Hi,

Jeff will be away for awhile, hope you dont mind me jumping in until his return

  • Please download rkill (Courtesy of Bleepingcomputer.com).
  • There are 5 different versions of this tool. If one of them will not run, please try the next one in the list.
  • Note: Vista and Windows 7 Users must right click and select "Run as Administrator" to run the tool.
  • Note: You only need to get one of the tools to run, not all of them.

1. rkill.exe
2. rkill.com
3. rkill.scr
4. WiNlOgOn.exe
5. uSeRiNiT.exe

Note: You will likely see a message from this rogue telling you the file is infected. Ignore the message. Leave the message OPEN, do not close the message.

Run rkill repeatedly until it's able to do it's job. This may take a few tries.

You'll be able to tell rkill has done it's job when your desktop (explorer.exe) cycles off and then on again.

Now try both aswMBR and DDS again, if still no luck than try this one

OTL by OldTimer
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.
Hi Ken,

Thanks for taking over for Jeff and helping me. Lately my computer seems to be running slower than usual. Today my internet froze a few times. I was going through some email and looking on some shopping sites and it would all the sudden freeze. The last time even the pointer froze. It didn't do that the 2 times before but it wouldn't do anything when I would try to click on something any way. I had to shut the computer down and start it back up to be able to do anything every time. So, it almost seems like I do have something going on. Its also pretty weird how those Genome Trojans just disappeared. My Spyware Terminator scan ran over night and this morning it said there were "No Threats Found" but when I looked through the report there were a few things listed there…….. (they kinda look like the same one's as on yesterday's scan)

I did as you asked and downloaded the rkill and ran it. I'm pretty sure it did whatever it was supposed to because it almost seemed like my desktop reset(all the icons disappeared real quick but then came right back). I tried the to run the DDS again several times but it still wouldn't finish. I was able to run the aswMBR and the results are as follows -

< End of report >

Also, there for a while, I'd say the past few weeks or so, my computer seems to be running a lot harder than usual. By that I mean (you know the sound the cpu makes when you put a disc in and it starts spinning/reading it) but there isn't a disc in my computer. It would do that off and on all day and night, probably about every 10-15 minutes. But, I haven't heard it do that much if at all the past day or two. Not sure if that is any help but thought I'd let you know any way. .

Thanks again for your help!
Hi,

Lets do this

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
Ok, now Combofix freezes and it won't close or I can't click on anything else. I disabled my spyware protection and firewall. I checked the TeaTimer in Spybot S&D but it was already unchecked. I double clicked on the Combofix icon, clicked run then a blue box came up. It said it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to do the scan, double for badly infected computers. Then the little cursor just sits there and blinks(doesn't move anywhere). My computer just sat there, too…. (you know how you can hear it processing) … well, mine was quiet, not a sound. I let it sit there for about 4-5 hours and it still didn't do anything. Am I maybe doing something wrong? I thought the last time I had problems with my computer, there was something else besides the DDS that wouldn't work right …. I'm wondering if it was the Combofix…… hmmm, I'm not sure. And, when I realized it wasn't going to do anything else I tried to close it but it wouldn't close and I couldn't click on anything else. I had to shut the computer down and restart it to be able to do anything. …….. :pullhair:
Sorry your having problems with this.

If this or any other programs hang, just go to Task Manager by pressing Ctrl. Alt. Del on your keyboard and under Applications just find the program and end it

Try booting to Safemode with Networking and see if it will run,

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode with Networking
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode
Hi Ken, Well, I tried it in safe mode and it wouldn't work like that either. It basically sat there laughing at me ……. lol!… It did the same thing as before. It was kind of weird though when I was in safe mode and I clicked on combofix a box came up saying "Are you sure you want to move combofix and all its contents to the recycle bin". I didn't click on anything else so I'm not sure why that came up. I clicked no. Also, when I was in safe mode I couldn't open my virus protection to disable it. I went back to regular mode and turned everything off but in my virus protection ( I just changed to F-Secure virus protection ) the only option to turn it off said "Turn off till the next boot or reboot". I started combofix and it did the exact same thing as in regular mode. I tried what you said about bringing up task manager(which I believe I tried before) and canceling or stopping combofix but it didn't do anything/didn't stop it. Its almost as if my screen is frozen. I tried about everything I could think of and the only way to get it to close or get into anything is to shut it down (even clicking on restart or turn computer off won't do anything) I have to physically turn it off and back on. ….. :wall: I'm sorry for all the problems.
Well, lets forget about CF just now and lets do this

The log that was produced after running ESET Online Scanner.
Ok, finally something worked……. lol! I did both scans, TDSSKiller and the ESET Online Scanner and they both said No Threats Found. Also, I mentioned in the last post or the one before that I changed virus/spyware protection to F-Secure. The scan I did last night said there were No Threats found, too. I seen in with the couple different scans I can do(In F-Secure) that there is a "rootkit" scan. I am going to try that to see what that does or says. The night before I did a regular scan because I wasn't aware of the other scans yet. Last night I did a deep scan. It just seems kind of weird that one day its saying I have these Trojans and the next day there gone….. the just disappeared. My computer does seem to be working better or more as it usually does. Doesn't seem as slow or it doesn't keep processing every 10-15 minutes or so. Can a virus do that though…… just show up one day and the next day just disappear? Thanks!!!
