Hi Ace11,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Unfortunately, HijackThis doesn't work very well with Windows 7. Let's get a better scan.

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and the click UPLOAD.
Thank you very much for the welcome as well as the help!

AVG picked up about 30 infections all relating to games in the Wild Games folder. I know this was one for sure C:\Program Files (x86)\WildGames\Zuma Deluxe
Ace11,

It doesn't seem to be showing anymore. Let's get an online scan.

ESET Online Scanner:

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

Vista users: You will need to to right-click on the either the IE or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

  • Please go here then click on: [external image: Posted Image]

Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.

  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • The virus signature database… will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!
Thanks for the reply, here it is, it found one thing… ESETSmartInstaller@High as downloader log: all ok # version=7 # OnlineScannerApp.exe=1.0.0.1 # OnlineScanner.ocx=1.0.0.6427 # api_version=3.0.2 # EOSSerial=ce12c88702f9354ab9cfa927d44beaf2 # end=finished # remove_checked=false # archives_checked=true # unwanted_checked=true # unsafe_checked=true # antistealth_checked=true # utc_time=2011-06-28 02:55:34 # local_time=2011-06-27 09:55:34 (-0600, Central Daylight Time) # country="United States" # lang=1033 # osver=6.1.7601 NT Service Pack 1 # compatibility_mode=512 16777215 100 0 0 0 0 0 # compatibility_mode=1032 16777213 85 87 0 52284307 0 0 # compatibility_mode=5893 16776574 100 94 0 60768013 0 0 # compatibility_mode=8192 67108863 100 0 0 0 0 0 # scanned=169385 # found=1 # cleaned=0 # scan_time=5170 C:\Users\Ace\Downloads\InstallRARFileOpenKnife.exe Win32/OpenCandy application (unable to clean) 00000000000000000000000000000000 I
Tomk, I just realized my Anti virus and spyware turned on during the eset online scan because I didn't disable them long enough. Do I need to re-run the program or are the results ok?
Ace11, Your report should be fine. Before we deal with what ESET found, go ahead and run a scan with AVG and let me know what it finds.
Ace11,

Looks that way. Go ahead and browse to and delete this file: C:\Users\Ace\Downloads\InstallRARFileOpenKnife.exe

Let's cleanup.

Now to remove most of the tools that we have used in fixing your machine:
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Download OTC to your desktop and run it
  • A list of tool components used in the cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OTC to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein

Also: "How to prevent malware"
by miekiemoes

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
Thanks for the fast replies as well as all the help Tomk, one last question, do u have a recommendation as far as anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware? Most of what I'm using currently is just a trial with the exception of Avg. Thanks again, Ace11
Ace11,

There is more information about security programs in the information I gave you links to.

However, you asked my opinion… and I always have one. :D

I'm not a big fan of AVG. A couple years ago it was my favorite but I find it to obtrusive and bloated at this point. I prefer AVAST! or Avira… though Microsoft Security Essentials is becoming my favorite. It seems to do a good job. Has a very small footprint. It's free for use on (I think) up to 10 computers.

For anti-spyware/malware I use Malwarebytes'. The paid version is extremely reasonably priced and gives full time protection… but the free version is very easy to update and run every few days.

And if you are behind a router… I believe the native windows firewall is sufficient.

All of the above assumes you practice safe computing. None of the programs will protect your computer from you. They only help to keep the bad guys at bay. If you click on unknown links, download pirated programs, participate with P2P (utorrent, bit torrent, etc) file sharing of music and movies…. etc.- you will get infected and no programs exist that can keep that from happening.

Other layers of protection such as Spybot, Winpatrol, or spywareblaster - are good ideas to have and use… but not as necessary. I use at least one of them on each of my computers. They are good to warn or remind you that you need to think about what you're doing.
