Running aswmbr.exe shuts down the system, or at least triggers something to shut it down. Should I turn user account control off and disable Kapersky before I run aswmbr?
aswmbr.exe gets through two disk 0 lines before the system halts. Also, when I launch aswmbr.exe, I'm asked to download a virus checker to run with it, which I decline to do.
I’d like you to check your system files:
• Click on Start, Run and type in, (or copy and paste),:
• Type in sfc /scannow in the command window and press Enter.
• Note the space between the c and the /
• If any files require replacing SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Windows Vista Disk for this process to continue. This can be done with a borrowed Windows Vista disk if you don't have one.
• Be patient because the scan may take some time.
• Allow the scan to run and when completed, reboot the system.

Apologies for including "Vista" disk instead of "Windows 7" in the instructions for running the scan.
To make things clearer I'll give new instructions:• Click on Start, All Programs. Accessories, then right click on Command Prompt and click on Run as administrator
• Type in sfc /scannow in the command window and press Enter.
• Note the space between the c and the /

I'd like you to try and run aswMbr.exe again. Right click to run as administrator, then look to the lower left corner of the screen. Untick the box next to 'Trace disk I/O calls'
Click the Scan button to start the scan. When it has completed, do not "Fix" anything - click Save Log, and save it to your desktop. If a log has been produced, post it in your next reply.
If it still didn’t run, try running it in safe mode
Hello EricWoods
It has been several days since I sent a reply with instructions to help with your computer problem.
Please let me know if you are having problems and still need help.
Thanks

Sorry for the delay, Satchfan. Tried to run RKUnhooker. After okaying the 'remove parasite' message, I get an unhandled exception. Here's the log:
Exception code : 0xC0000005
Instruction address : 0x00402EAA
Attempt to read at address : 0xFFFFFFFF
No worries but if you are going to be busy, please let me know as we're so busy that we have no choice but to close unanswered posts.
Run RogueKiller
Note: Do not reboot your computer if at all possible otherwise the malware will reactivate and you will have to run RogueKiller again
Download RogueKiller to your desktop.
close all running programs
for Windows Vista/Seven, right click -> run as administrator, for XP simply double-click on RogueKiller.exe
when prompted, type 1 and press Enter
the RKreport.txt will be generated next to the executable, (on the desktop).
If the program is blocked, do not hesitate to try several times. If it really does not work (it could happen), rename it to winlogon.exe
Please post the contents of the RKreport.txt in your next Reply.
Remember: Do not reboot your computer if at all possible otherwise the malware will reactivate and you will have to run RogueKiller again
