The bridge is made from stepping stones reminiscent of a checker board.

However, there is a "key" to crossing this bridge safely:
  • You must enter on the stone in the lower left corner.
  • You must exit from the stone on the upper right.
  • You must move across the bridge on alternating colored stones.
  • No "jumping". You must move to an adjacent stone.
  • You must step on one color of stone exactly 3 times.
  • You must step on the other color of stones exactly 4 times.

How many possible routes are there across this bridge?
going to guess at 23 for now, will sit down and work them all out later. did a quick run through in my head and make it 14.
I'm going ahead and say the answer is "15".
B)

Let see:

E E1 E3

D D2

C C1 C3

B B2

A A1 A3

1 2 3

Whereas co-ordinates in blue represent black squares, A1 represents entrance and E3 represents exit.

Routes identified are as follows:

Bk Wh Bk Wh Bk Wh Bk [Bk = column of black square coordinates; Wh = column of white square coordinates]

1. A1 B1 C1 D1 E1 E2 E3

2. A1 B1 C1 D1 D2 E2 E3
3. A1 B1 C1 D1 D2 D3 E3

4. A1 B1 C1 C2 D2 E2 E3
5. A1 B1 C1 C2 D2 D3 E3
6. A1 B1 C1 C2 C3 D3 E3

7. A1 B1 B2 C2 D2 E2 E3
8. A1 B1 B2 C2 D2 D3 E3
9. A1 B1 B2 C2 C3 D3 E3
10. A1 B1 B2 B3 C3 D3 E3

11. A1 A2 B2 C2 D2 E2 E3
12. A1 A2 B2 C2 D2 D3 E3
13. A1 A2 B2 C2 C3 D3 E3
14. A1 A2 B2 B3 C3 D3 E3
15. A1 A2 A3 B3 C3 D3 E3

Everyone who participates in Monday Madness gets a cookie… but there can only be one "winning" cookie - though the important thing to remember is that the fun comes not so much from getting the "correct" answer, but rather from the "effort" to come up with an answer.

and

i'd be very happy to share my pretty winning cookie with you!

But Terry!!!

Don't you remember this when you guys got this…

You got the gist of the names correct… and the odd man out and why - Lee. Terry is correct that you have a couple typos in your answer.

Here's the cookie. You two can divide it as you choose.
