Hi,
searchqu installed on my pc, when i loaded firefox my homepage (google) was gone and replaced with http://www.searchqu.com/406 , there was also an addon search tab, i removed the tab from the tools>add ons section. I then went to tools>options>homepage and changed it back to google. However when i create a new tab it reverts to http://www.searchqu.com/406, prior to this the tab section was empty. I also went to MSCONFIG and i deselected a startup program called DATAMN~1, restarted my pc, but the still goes to site location everytime i create new tabs (ya i did restart pc), oh also. System Restore wont work for me, when i click on the icon, it does nothing, when i click on it a second time it creates a window labeled System Restore, but it is empty of content, so i cannot use system restore points, i also tried a CKscanner.exe, it scans the pc, but for some reason i get a bluescreen of death.

Hi nero,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

It appears you already have ran ComboFix. This is not recommended without guidance. However, let's use it since you have it.

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
Hi Tomk

thanks, for your assistance, but from the get go i will say i have a problem

comboFix is on my pc. When i created the script file and dragged it, that went fine. Until.

Error opening file for writing:
C:\32788R22FWJFW\grep.cfxxe
Click Abort to stop installation,
Retry to try again, or
ignore to skip this file.

i tried to uninstall comboFix by the following method
Start>Run> combofix /uninstall

this too produced the error i quoted above

Yesterday when i did the installation of ComboFix it ran the scan to Stage 50 a comment appeared "Deleting files" and then a blue screen of death.
This happened again earlier today trying to follow your instructions, until eventually getting the error message quoted.

i tried to uninstall comboFix by the following method
Start>Run> combofix /uninstall

Bad idea!

Just drag your copy of ComboFix to your recycle bin.

Then download a fresh copy :
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Disable_…ams_t96260.html

Then please follow earlier instructions for running the script.
Hi Tomk, i will admit to having expressed difficulty using combofix, is there another program i can use instead? my pc has slowed down considerably as well, programs taking twice as long, combofix loads but not to the scanning sections
nero,

Let's do it this way.

Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on OTL.exe to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • In the window under Custom Scans/Fixes copy and paste the following

    netsvcs

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

nero, Good. Now please drag your copy of ComboFix to the recycle bin, then download a fresh copy. Run a scan (no script) and post the log.
Hi Tomk, Thank you for your assistance thus far, how ever i am still getting bluescreens of death from ComboFix, i keep getting a "bad pooler error" blue screen of death after its initial scan.
nero, Please run a new scan with OTL. Just start the program and click on run scan. There will only be one log produced this time. Please post it.
