  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Logs to include with next post:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt
aswMBR log
Checkup.txt

Thanks

Satchfan
Thanks so much, Satchfan! I have Spyware Doctor, which isn't listed in the security things to disable, and I haven't been able to figure out how to disable it. I'm not sure if it even blocks things automatically, so maybe it's okay to leave it as is? When it wants to block a site, it always asks me if I want to block it. Should I move on to the next step or do I need to find a way to disable Spyware Doctor?

Thanks!
DDS gave me this:

Download and run ComboFix

Download ComboFix from the following location:

Link

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

    **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue its malware removal procedures.

    [external image: Posted Image]

    Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    [external image: Posted Image]

    Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
Note: Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

When finished, it will produce a log. Please include the ComboFix.txt in your next reply. It can be found at C:\ComboFix.txt

Please let me knpw what remaining problems there are

Thanks

I'm now able to click on links in Google and actually go to the site I'm supposed to. Does this mean it's all clear? I hope, I hope! :-)
Hi Hippie Mama

I would suggest that you remove AskToolbar

* It promotes its toolbars on sites targeted at children
* It promotes its toolbars through adverts that appear to be part of other companies' sites
* It promotes its toolbars through other companies' spyware.
* It is Installed without any disclosure whatsoever and without the consent of the user.
* It solicits installations via "deceptive door-openers" that do not accurately describe the offer; failing to affirmatively show a license agreement; linking to a EULA via an off-screen link.
* It makes confusing changes to user's browsers and and takes users to pages they didn't intend to visit, increasing Ask's revenues.

===================================================

Open ComboFix

Please do the following:• Close any open browsers.
• Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so that they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
• Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:
Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000000
"FirewallOverride"=dword:00000000

Save this as "CFScript.txt", and as Type: All Files (*.*) in the same location as ComboFix.exe

[external image: Posted Image]

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it produces a log at C:\ComboFix.txt. Post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.

Download Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware

Click here
  • double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • at the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish..
  • if an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • when the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • when removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • the log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
NOTE: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

I went into Control Panel then Add and Delete Programs and deleted the Ask Toolbar. Is that all I need to do to get rid of it?

Before I download the Malaware thing I just wanted to ask you if it's compatible with the PC Tools Spyware Doctor that I have now. Is there a way to find out if they'd be okay to have together?

Thanks so much!!!
