I didn't change anything. It still says what it said. I just removed the blank lines to give it a different look since it was sounding like everyone was giving up. The blank lines could be a clue or a distraction. It all depends on your perspective.

i assume there is a numerical/logical pattern in the way the letters are written correct? not a well known phrase anyway i suspect.

n can you say that again? actually i think it says you can say that again! pattern is start at top read down missing a letter then read up from bottom missing a letter move onto next column and repeat.
