TomK, That scan found no problems. What next? Could it be a stability issue? I ran the Win 7 recovery disk which was ReImage software that I don't have a license key for either. It said I have 37.3 gig of free space on my system partition. free memory is 82% Hard drive speed is 60 Megabytes per second. Temp is normal. Several programs have crashed frequently over the last 4 months: Windows Backup, Host Process for Windows Services, Divx Plus Player.exe, MIE, Lxciaiox.exe, Microsoft Security Client Setup, Msiinstaller, Signinassistant, Windows Explorer, Chrome, Firefox.exe, Mediago.exe, Vss, Winword.exe, Acrord32.exe, Microsoft Office 12, plugin-container.exe, Tps.exe, and Yahoomessenger, exe, Stability level is 65% Security level is 100% Windows Damage Severity is Low It did not detect any malware or viruses. I can only scan the computer with this program. To run the repairs requires a key which I do not have. I cannot purchase any software at this time as funds are very low. I would move files to my external drive but I don't know which ones to move or weather programs can still access them there. My photo manager program doesn't seem to be able to link to them there. Does this information help solve my problem? What can I do now?
maybe.

TomK, Here is the report from the MGADiag.exe Sorry it has taken me all day. I could not get back into Whatthetech forum for some reason. It looked like I was there and the topic page showed the last comment was from you, but the last message was from yesterday. When I refreshed, it gave a time out error. That was on my laptop as well as the Safe mode desktop. Finally got around it by clicking on the number of posts by your name and following that. I'm thinking that this may be the crux of the problem. Your system has never been validated. Microsoft has done a better job with Windows 7 than earlier versions, protecting themselves against pirated systems. If you don't validate it… it will kind of self destruct over time. Can you activate it?
How do I activated it? I thought it was activated back when I first loaded it. I thought that the tech (friend) that gave it to me at the Win 7 launch gave me the key to activate it. But I did not get a copy of the software or the key. It is not a pirate copy. He was allowed to give away a few copies at the Win 7 Party. Trouble is, I don't see him anymore. I don't know if I can get the key from him now. Right now I can't afford to pay for a new copy.

I don't know if I can get the key from him now.

I suggest you try.

Without a validation… I "can't" help you per the TOU… however, even if those rules didn't exist, without the system being validated… it will continue to fail and there isn't a thing I can do about it.
Tom K, Thanks for all your help. I will see if I can get hold of him and ask about it. If not I may have to go back to my XP version. :wall:
I don't have any good advice for you… I'm unclear how your friend came by the copy to give you, however, if all else fails you might try talking to Microsoft. I seriously doubt they can/will help you, but it never hurts to try. Based upon the fact that at this point in time you don't have a valid install… I need to close this thread. If you get things straightened out, you can start a new topic. Good luck.
