my wife has a toshiba that has something nasty! it will not allow the security center to be opened. it will not allow wireless or wired internet access, or even recognize a wireless network. it also changed the appearance theme on its own. i have no idea whats going on, i just know it will not allow me to do anything to it. i can provide any specific info that is needed when requested. its running vista.
Is this computer and the other one that we are about finished with hooked up to the same router ?

Download DDS from one of the links below to your desktop

Link 1
Link 2

  • Double click the tool to run it.
  • A black Screen will open, just read the contents and do nothing.
  • When the tool finishes, it will open 2 reports, DDS.txt and attach.txt
  • Copy/Paste the contents of 'DDS.txt' into your post.
  • 'attach.txt' should be zipped using Windows native zip utility and attached to your post. Compress and uncompress files (zip files)
i am on the computer we are finishing up with (mine) because i cannot access the internet with my wifes laptop( the infected one). the laptop cannot find any networks and the security center is shut down and cannot be accessed. i was hoping you could give me some info on how to work around this problem long enough to get it on so we can start running the proper programs. when its running, we do share the same router.
What you will have to do is download DDS from your working computer and transfer it by disk to this infected one and run it, I need to see the log before we plan a course of action. Sometimes Malware can disrupt your internet setting so lets see what DDS shows
ok, i loaded the DSS onto a disc. i opened it on the laptop i loaded it with to make sure it loaded properly, and it opened with no issues. when i try to open it on the infected laptop, it says that windows cannot recognize the disc because it is not formatted properly. both laptops have vista so i dont see why it would load for one and not the other… is there a secret that i missed?

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Copy the entire contents inside the Quote box and Paste it into Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad ) name the file Regfix.reg and in the drop down box, save it as All Files. Save it to your desktop. Then Rightclick on the Regfix.reg file and click on Merge, when it asks you to merge with the Registry, say yes.

If you saved the file correctly it should look like this [external image: Posted Image]

Reboot and let me know if you still have internet issues
when i try to find a wireless signal, i get this… connection status unknown, the dependancy service or group failed to start. it did correct the failure to access the security center though. im having no problem connecting to the current router on my laptop, and the infected laptop has been on the same router before, so it should recognize it…
ok ken, i got a wireless connection now, so the laptop has internet access… whats the next step in cleaning the carp** out of this toshiba?
