hi,
my computer was running really slow and takes ages to start up, one of your experts on the malware forum took me through some preocesses and my computer seems to be running faster now however it is still mega slow at starting up. The guy i was speaking to recommended that i post on this forum tto get some help.
Is there any way i can speed up the start up process for my computer.
Colin
Have you got a link to the other forum topic? It just helps us if we know what help you've had so far.
I'm also going to get you to do a PC Pitstop Test. Just follow the instructions below and post back the results in your next reply :
Please use IE for the next steps. Chrome or Firefox aren't supported unfortunately.
Head over to http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/
At the top left of the page it should say "Sign up FREE". Click the button and create an account. Don't worry, it really is free.
Use a valid e-mail address and create a new password to login.
Go back to http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit and click the green button that says "Scan this system Now!". You will be asked to download and install an Active-X Control. This is a normal part of the proccess, so it's safe to install.
The tests will take a few minutes and you will see some flashing shapes on your screen. If you suffer from epilepsy or are susceptible to nausea or motion sickness, try not to look at the screen whilst it does these graphical tests.
Once you get the results, just copy and paste the URL from your browser's address bar into your next reply.
Other than the fact that you have a slow CPU that was completely bogged down during the test, there isn't much here to indicate problems. You have extra programs starting when your computer turns on and those need to be adjusted.
You are probably dealing with faulty/failing/hanging services at startup.
Export your SYSTEM and APPLICATION logs and attach them to the forum for review.
How to capture an event log and upload it to the forum:
First, open Event Viewer by clicking Start -> Run -> type eventvwr.msc and press ENTER.
In the Event Viewer please right click the requested event log (i.e. Application, system, etc…) and click Save Log File As.
Please save the logfile to your desktop and give it a recognizable name.
Do this for each log that has been requested.
When you are finished saving the necessary logs, close Event Viewer.
On your desktop find the saved log files. Hold the CTRL key and click to select each event log.
When all event logs are selected, right-click one of them, click Send to -> Compressed Zip Folder.
A new .ZIP file will have been created on your desktop. Please attach that file to this forum in your next reply.
Well, tickle me pink. It looks like there isn't anything significant going on in your event logs either.
Therefore, your slow performance must be all that stuff you have loading up when you turn your computer on.
So, lets manage some of that stuff and see how things go. There's a nice utility for doing so called CodeStuff Starter. Once you export your startup and services list, I will review it, and respond back with the items you can safely disable to improve your startup time and performance. I may also suggest the uninstallation of a few programs.
How to use CodeStuff Starter to view services and startup items:
Run Starter by finding it on your start menu after it is installed.
When the program opens, you will see three tabs on the main screen (Startup, Processes, Services)
Please click the Startup tab and make sure that All Sections is selected on the left hand side under the sections view pane.
Once the Startup tab and all sections is selected, please click the File menu and choose Save as HTML.
Please save the file to your desktop and call it startup.html.
Now, please click the Services tab.
Once the Services tab is open, please click the File menu and choose Save as HTML.
Please save the file to your desktop and call it services.html.
Now that both files have been saved to your desktop, close CodeStuff Starter.
Locate the startup.html and services.html files on your desktop. Hold the CTRL key and click to select each file.
Right-click one of the selected files, click Send To -> Compressed Zip Folder. A new .zip file will be created. Please attach that file to your next post.
Hello. Thanks for that info. I will get back with you today with clear details on what to do to make this computer run great again. Thanks for your patience.
Hi i have removed the programs you reccomended but i'm not sure where starter is so have been unable to disable any programs as yet, Where do i find starter

Yeah. That is a known issue with removal of the office compatibility pack after installing Office 2007.
There are a couple of things that resolve it. I can't remember what I used when I ran into this problem. However, I'm pretty sure "repairing" the office installation works. Go into control panel -> add/remove programs, find Office 2007 and click change/remove. Go through the wizard and choose the option to repair the installation.
