OK then lets get the show on the road :)

Two programmes to run - both are analysis for the first run, and removal once I have found the miscreants

Download aswMBR.exe ( 511KB ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it

[external image: Posted Image]
Click the "Scan" button to start scan

[external image: Posted Image]
On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

THEN

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click on Minimal Output at the top
  • Click on Scan all users
  • Download the following file scan.txt to your Desktop. Click here to download it. You may need to right click on it and select "Save"
  • Double click inside the Custom Scan box at the bottom
  • A window will appear saying "Click Ok to load a custom scan from a file or Cancel to cancel"
  • Click the Ok button and navigate to the file scan.txt which we just saved to your desktop
  • Select scan.txt and click Open. Writing will now appear under the Custom Scan box
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time and post them in your topic
:wavey: I used TDSSKiller and then Malwarebytes, and it seems to have worked. But it might not have, let's have a look!
Well the MBR is clear mayhap TDSSKiller sorted that - but still some to remove. On completion of this run can you let me know what problems remain

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

Any remaining problems ?

Did you set this proxy in firefox ?

FF - prefs.js..network.proxy.http: "127.0.0.1"
FF - prefs.js..network.proxy.http_port: 54061

No other problems! Ok.. I gotta admit though I'm not sure about the Firefox proxy.. I don't even know what that means. :D
If you do not know then it should be dead :)

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :OTL
    [2011/04/04 10:24:24 | 000,000,000 | —D | M] (XULRunner) – C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\BUSINESSUITES\LOCAL SETTINGS\APPLICATION DATA\{180875AC-EA07-4D58-A385-7B65E2C46569}

OK young sir, any remaining problems before I let you loose on the big scary world

:weee:
This young madam ;) just wants some prevention tips. What should I do so this doesn't happen again? Unfortunately it's a work computer so I can't do anything like remove Norton and replace it with something effective, lol.
One stands corrected Madame :smack:

That is a for sure - one clean up and prevention spiel coming up B)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day —– Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :Commands
    [resethosts]
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Run OTL again and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself. ASWmbr can be deleted from the desktop

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

SPRING CLEAN

Download and run Puran Disc Defragmenter
For the first run I would recommend a boot defrag and disk check

[external image: Posted Image]

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

[external image: Posted Image] Malwarebytes. Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit
  • Microsoft Windows Update
