Hello,
I was referred to you guys from Spybot forum, my Dell Inspiron 1525 is infected with the TDSS root kit/backdoor virus. I was told the safest and most secure way to rid this virus is by doing a COMPLETE reformat as the master boot record is also infected. I was sent to you for help with this.
Here is the link to my topic thread with Spybot and also includes my dds. If you need me to run it again or another report I will be happy too.

Hi Satchfan,
Thank you for your reply. In regards to the virus, i have 3 questions:
1- I was told this type of virus cannot be guaranteed to be fully removed except by reformatting the laptop? Is this true?
2- Do you think it will be safe to save my pictures in a USB?
3- When I got infected I had an SD card in the drive, is that infected also?
Thanks!

There is never a 100% guarantee when dealing with computer infections but if this infection is as you say, it is less “terminal" than some other infections and could “probably” be cleaned.
Do you think it will be safe to save my pictures in a USB?
The safest place would be a DVD R unless your USB memory stick is either new or formatted
Until I am certain what is on your computer I can't really give any answers. However, attempting to clean this is easier than the alternative so it may be worth a try.
I'm including the first set of instructions below and you can let me know your decision.in your reply.
