:welcome:

First off you have two antivirus programs running, thats over kill and will severely hamper system performance plus can cause all sorts of other issues to your computer locking up and what not. Its recommended to just have one, keep it updated and run scans on a regular basis. You have AVG and Avast, decide which one you want to keep and uninstall the other one via Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel. I would suggest removing AVG as it will interfere with some scans we need to run

I am looking at some bad files on your system, lets do this.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.

Please download Malwarebytes from Here or Here

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Post the report please

Hello Colin,

Well, one of the items removed by Malwarebytes was a backdoor bot, this has the capabilities to steal passwords, credit card and banking account numbers, I would strongly urge you to change all your passwords for sites that you may use for shopping or banking and then in the next few months keep an eye on your statements for any unauthorized charges.

You may be able to remove AVG with this tool
http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools

With what you had I would like to check to make sure there is not a Rootkit involved.

Scan With RootKitUnHooker

  • Please choose one link and download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your desktop.
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
  • Now double-click on RKUnhookerLE.exe to run it.
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan.
  • Check (Tick) Drivers and Stealth
  • Uncheck the rest. then click OK
  • When prompted to Select Disks for Scan, make sure C:\ is checked and click OK
  • Wait till the scanner has finished and then click File > Save Report.
  • Save the report somewhere where you can find it. Click Close.
  • Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in your next reply.

Note** you may get the following warning, just click OK and continue.

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"
hiya, i downloaded the AVG remover tool and ran it however it shut down my computer when i was in the middle of doing the scans you instructed me too so i had to re-do them, not sure if it will affect the results. Also once i had checked the two boxes and clicked scan i wasn't give an option to select c; drive it just automatically started the scan so don't know if this will affect the results either. I have pasted the results as instructed, will you let me know if they are of any use. How do you guys learn all this stuff it all seems mega complicated? regards, colin RkU Version: 3.8.388.590, Type LE (SR2) ============================================== OS Name: Windows XP Version 5.1.2600 (Service Pack 3) Number of processors #1 ============================================== >Drivers ============================================== 0xAA30D000 C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\RtkHDAud.sys 4927488 bytes (Realtek Semiconductor Corp., Realtek® High Definition Audio Function Driver) 0xBF1AE000 C:\WINDOWS\System32\igxpdx32.DLL 2306048 bytes (Intel Corporation, DirectDraw® Driver for Intel® Graphics Technology) 0x804D7000 C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe 2069376 bytes (Microsoft Corporation, NT Kernel & System) 0x804D7000 PnpManager 2069376 bytes 0x804D7000 RAW 2069376 bytes 0x804D7000 WMIxWDM 2069376 bytes 0xBF800000 Win32k 1855488 bytes 0xBF800000 C:\WINDOWS\System32\win32k.sys 1855488 bytes (Microsoft Corporation, Multi-User Win32 Driver) 0xBF04D000 C:\WINDOWS\System32\igxpdv32.DLL 1445888 bytes (Intel Corporation, Component GHAL Driver) 0xF718B000 C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\igxpmp32.sys 1183744 bytes (Intel Corporation, Intel Graphics Miniport Driver) 0xF733B000 Ntfs.sys 577536 bytes (Microsoft Corporation, NT File System Driver) 0xF70C9000 C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\ar5211.sys 548864 bytes (Atheros Communications, Inc., Driver for Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter) 0xAA022000 C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\mrxsmb.sys 458752 bytes (Microsoft Corporation, Windows NT SMB Minirdr) 0xA9F5E000 C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\aswSnx.SYS 385024 bytes (AVAST Software, avast! Hello Colin,

Well, I started out a few years ago as system builder, built all my own computers for family and friends and myself, then when a friend go infected my interest switched to removing this garbage, been at it about 8 years.

Good news is there is no rootkit  You should only do one scan at a time. Where you able to remove AVG ?

If this virus scanner comes back ok then you will most likely be good to go

ESET Online Scanner
I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan

*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so there are no conflicts and it will speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once the scan is finished remember to re-enable your antivirus along with your antispyware programs.

  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.

Then lets do this

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here

Go to VirusTotal and submit this file for analysis, just use the browse feature and then Send File, you will get a report back, post the report into this thread for me to see. If the site says this file has been checked before, have them check it again

C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\riched20.dll <–This file

If the site is busy you can try this one

Registry entries deleted on Reboot…
You did just fine. What ERUNT does is make a backup of your windows registry and in case running a fix with OTL there are some problems than we can use ERUNT to restore them prior to the fix, but everything went well and we do not need to restore the registry. Run OTL to run a scan and post a new OTL log. How are the redirects, are you still getting redirected ?
