Hello,
I have a Samsung Netbook with a virus. I am unable to execute any programs in Normal Mode due to the virus. I have run the requested test applications and accessed the internet via IE in Safe Mode through the Administrator Profile. I have attached logs below with the exception of "attach" in DDS because I can not zip the file. Can you please help identify and eliminate virus?

Good Morning,

aswMBR checks your hard disk for a virus but it shows none. Lets try a few more scans

Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
  • Double click GMER.exe.
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a full scan…click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan..
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED …
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
      [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt"
  • Save the log where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries

Please copy and paste the report into your Post.
Good afternoon Ken 545. I was able log onto Normal Mode and to run GMER in Normal Mode. I have posted the results below. All applications that I try to open while in Normal Mode I get a pop up dialogue box asking me "Open With", prompting me to select with application icon to run the program in. This happens when I try to open a program from desktop or the Program List off Windows Start. When I try to right click "My Computer"to get to the Properties option I receive an pop-up dialogue box that says CONTROL PANEL - "C:\Windows\System 32\Rundll32.exe" Application not found. Neither action is a normal operation… I have zipped and attached the log file. When I tried to copy and paste the text I was prompted that it is too large.

Lets see if Combofix finds and fixes anything

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
I downloaded Combofix to my desktop running in Normal Mode. I tried to run in Normal Mode but could not get the program to execute. I was successful in running the Combofix program in Safe Mode and have included the Combofix log below:

My.Freeze.com <– I would suggest that you uninstall this as its adware How are things running now, any redirects or unwanted pop up windows ?
Ken545…actually I haven't experienced any redirects or pop-ups. I was unable to execute Control Panel to run Add/Remove Programs when running in Normal Mode. I get the pop-up dialogue box that says CONTROL PANEL - "C:\Windows\System 32\Rundll32.exe" Application not found. I am also unable to run the "Search" option in Explorer to locate the file "Myfreeze" while operating in Normal Mode. I logged back in to Safe Mode as Administrator and was able to open Control Panel however I could not locate the "Myfreeze.com" program in the Add/Remove Programs. I was also able to run a "Search" command in Explorer while in Safe Mode searching for "Myfreeze.com" and could not locate the file on the C drive. Something is going on in Normal Mode that is preventing any of the programs to execute. Any additional suggestions?
Ken545…I thought I would also advise that no programs are loading at Start Up in Normal Mode that typically begin during Startup. There are no icons showing up in the tray that typically show programs that will be running after startup Also the computer is running extremely slow when I boot up and log onto Normal Mode. I did run Malwarebytes again in Normal Mode and have posted the log below. I have not taken any action on these results. Hope this helps. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.50.1.1100 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 6281 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 4/6/2011 11:26:07 PM mbam-log-2011-04-06 (23-25-35).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 185131 Time elapsed: 33 minute(s), 42 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 1 Registry Data Items Infected: 1 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command\(default) (Hijack.ExeFile) -> Value: (default) -> No action taken. Good evening Ken545…I believe we are making progress. I ran Malwarebytes again in Normal Mode and deleted the 2 infected files per your instructions ~ log below. I then rebooted back into Normal Mode. The computer continues to reboot and run very slow however there were programs that executed at StartUp. I am also able to open all programs without the "Open With" dialogue box popping up. I am also able to get into the properties section of My Computer. None of these processes worked prior to deleting the infected files. The only issue now is the speed. Any suggestions? Thanks for your assistance.
