Let's try a few old riddles.
1.
Round as a saucer, deep as a cup,
Yet the whole Mississippi couldn't fill it up.
2.
The man who made it didn't use it.
The man who bought it didn't want it.
The man who used it didn't know it.
3.
Look me in the eye, I am somebody;
But stand behind me and I am nobody.
4.
In marble walls as white as milk,
Lined with skin as soft as silk,
With a pool so crystal-clear,
A golden sun doth always appear.
No doors there are to this stronghold,
Yet thieves break in and steal the gold.
5.
The longer she stands, the lower she grows.
6.
Green as grass, but is not grass.
Red as blood, but is not blood.
Black as ink, but is not ink.
What is it?
There are the ones I think are it, reast I do not know.

I think number 6 is a blackberry or mulberry . They start off green, then turn red as they ripen, but end up a deep black/purply sorta colour when ripe….. and they stain about as good as ink does too

yep a blackberry for #6 they grow in our backyard,
I was thinking maybe a mask? because theres only one side, from the front is the face but from behind it is nothing really?? But Im also thinking I am totally wrong haa haa.
I agreed with all 4 of Jimbos first answers, but apparently only 3 were right, which makes me wonder, do u guys class a colander as the same thing as a sieve??
Jimbo1's first set of answers… and my response… could be a little confusing. Sorry for the confusion but Jimbo1 EDITED HIS ANSWERS AFTER I RESPONDED. His original answer for the first riddle was "the gulf of Mexico". As it reads now… all 4 responses he has provided are correct. (I would probably have accepted colander - just as I'm accepting a sieve, though I typically think of a colander as being deeper than a cup. The "actual" response is a strainer)
Also, chrissy72 is correct on #6 as it is indeed a blackberry.
So Im gathering we were both wrong on number 3 lol
Hmmmmmmmmm
colander is what some would say, but my wife told me you big dummy what he is asking for is a sieve and I said not, but she showed me a spaghetti strainer and looked me in the eye
All of the terms used in response to riddle #1 can be somewhat interchangeable (I guess).
This utensil would be what I feel would be commonly called a strainer: [external image: Posted Image]It is fairly small… just about as deep as a cup.
A colander would typically be considerably larger - much deeper than a cup. [external image: Posted Image]
Whereas a sieve would encompass both of the above instruments as well as a host of others. A sieve is any devise made of screen or mesh for the purpose of separating materials. We use them in gravel production, manufacturing, gardening, mining, water filtration, as well as cooking.
Side note: Engineering wise, a plate perforated with round holes is known as a screen. A product made from weaving wires, leaving square holes, is known as mesh. I realize that most people have window "screens" on their house… but they are made from mesh.
