Hello Leese1c and :welcome:

My name is JonTom

  • Malware Logs can sometimes take a lot of time to research and interpret.
  • Please be patient while I try to assist with your problem. If at any time you do not understand what is required, please ask for further explanation.
  • Please note that there is no "Quick Fix" to modern malware infections and we may need to use several different approaches to get your system clean.
  • Read every reply you receive carefully and thoroughly before carrying out the instructions. You may also find it helpful to print out the instructions you receive, as in some instances you may have to disconnect your computer from the Internet.
  • PLEASE NOTE: If you do not reply after 5 days your thread will be closed.

There is quite a bit that need to be done here.

Before we make a start lets get some deeper scans:

  • Please perform the following scan

    • Please download DDS from here and save it to your desktop.
    • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
    • Double click on the DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run).
    • When done, DDS.txt will open.
    • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
    • Save both reports to your desktop.
    • Please post the contents of the DDS.txt and Attach.txt logs in your next reply.

  • Please scan your system with GMER

    [external image: Posted Image]
Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here.
    • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
    • Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent.
    • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.
    • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOTKIT" entries

Please post the DDS logs and the GMER log in your next reply. If you encounter any problems with the scans come back and let me know.

Hi again, Im having trouble with the Rookits? part of it. Every time I try my whole computer freezes up and has to be restarted and last time it took like 7 tries before it would even start up. So I dont think I should do that anymore. If I have to run that part then I will have to figure out something else because its just not working. Thanks
Hello Leese1c

Lets try it like this:

  • GMER

    • If you are having trouble getting GMER to complete a scan, please run it again, but this time uncheck everything EXCEPT "Sections" and "C:\".
    • If GMER does not produce a log please try running it from Safe Mode.

    • How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

    • Restart your computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the "Advanced Options" menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item.
    • Press Enter.

    • If GMER in safe mode does not work, please try Rootkit Unhooker:

  • Rootkit Unhooker

    • Please Download Rootkit Unhooker and Save it to your desktop.
    • Now double-click on RKUnhookerLE.exe to run it.
    • Click the Report tab, then click Scan.
    • Check (Tick) Drivers, Stealth. Uncheck the rest, then Click OK.
    • Wait till the scanner has finished and then click File, Save Report.
    • Save the report somewhere where you can find it. Click Close.

Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in your next reply here.

Note: You may get the following warning, just click OK and continue.

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

Please provide the GMER/Rootkit Unhooker log in your next reply. If you are still having trouble, come back and let me know.
Im starting to realize this is way too complicated and is it really worth it? My comuter is old so It probably may never be "newish" again. Im downloading rookits well that last msg you sent and so far its scanning. its taking an extremely long time…. so you need me to post the results of that here? I skipped alot of the instructions as I couldnt understand them but got to the point of downloading the gmer part…… so its scanning now….if it doesnt close or freeze on me, where do I save it? I dont know how to save it to my desk top, every time I do, then go back to desk top, the items are not there. SO, im getting very confused. Sorry, but I am trying. I will hopefully post the results of the scan if it ever finshes. Last time the whole program closed down on me in the middle of it…….. thanks so much for your help Lisa
ok, this is what that last gmer scan generated: are we where we're supposed to be now? I am soooooooo confused. sorry but Im staying by as best I can. thanks RkU Version: 3.8.388.590, Type LE (SR2) ============================================== OS Name: Windows XP Version 5.1.2600 Hello Leese1c

Thank you for the logs.

Sorry, but I am trying / I am soooooooo confused. sorry

You have nothing at all to apologise for. You have not done anything wrong.

Im starting to realize this is way too complicated

I understand that it can be a bit daunting at times, but remember, you are not alone. I am right here with you and will help you as best as I can. Lets take things nice and simple - one step after another.

I skipped alot of the instructions as I couldnt understand them

My instructions can sometimes be a little confusing, but that is MY fault, not yours. Just take your time with each step, and if there is something you do not understand don't panic. Just come back here and ask me and I will try to explain in more detail. Remember, there is no such thing as a "silly" question. If you are unsure please ask, its what I am here for :)

are we where we're supposed to be now?

We are (thanks to you). You did a really good job getting those scans together.

Please work your way through the following steps. Read all of the instruction carefully. I am not going anywhere so take your time, there is no rush. If you are unsure about what to do just let me know :)

  • IOBIT Products

    • We note you are using one or more products from IOBit.
    • IOBit has been accused by Malwarebytes of illegally using their intellectual property without permission.
    • Please see this for additional information on these allegations: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=29681.
    • A thread in the IOBit’s forum responded to the accusations from MalwareBytes. It is noteworthy that several responses from users raising specific questions about IOBit’s response and finding it unsatisfactory were deleted and the thread was closed. The bottom line from IOBit was: “No hard proof shows that IObit stole the database of Malwarebytes.”
    • From what is said above, at least until the issues of possible database theft and spyware packaging is resolved, we do not recommend the use of IOBit products.
    • You can remove IOBit products by clicking on "Start" and then on "Control Panel" and then on "Add or Remove Programs".

Once you have uninstalled Iobit, please do not use the internet except to download the tools we require and to post/read logs at this site. Once your machine is clean we will install a trustworthy antivirus program.

  • Combofix

    • Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:

      Link 1
      Link 2

    • VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

    • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here .
    • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

    • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
    • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
    • Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

    [external image: Posted Image]

    • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    [external image: Posted Image]

    • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
    • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
    • Notes: Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
    • Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
    • Should there be issues with internet afterward:

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab -> Lan Settings -> uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

In Firefox: Tools Menu -> Options… -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection and uncheck the proxyserver, set it to No Proxy.

Please post the ComboFix log in your next reply, and if there is anything you are unsure about just let me know.
I dont know how to add certain things to my desktop. Everytime I try to do that nothing happens. How exactly do I add it to my desktop? And when I tried to open the "link 1" it down loaded then froze up my computer.
Hello Leese1c

How exactly do I add it to my desktop?

Are you using Firefox to connect to the internet? Please let me know which browser you are using.
firefox but I still have internet explorer if you're rather I use that one. I am getting very confused because I seem to be running the same type scans over and over and posting them, then I am asked to scan the items again. Its very daunting and I dont see a solution in sight.im really not trying to be difficult it just seems so monotnous and I dont feel we are really getting anywhere. ARE WE? you know more than I do but Im getting tired of scanning and posting to not get anywhere. I know you're busy so I do understand that..Im just getting tired of doing the same thing a thousand times a day. i know, I asked you for help so Im not being a ###### or being ungrateful at all. I just want to get back to my computer fixed or not.Im kinda done with scans and all that. I dont want to damage my compter further. Thanks for your help believe me im extremely grateful, but I dont feel we are gettng anywhere. I mean scan post, scan post, scan post scan post……….i dont understand at all. If you feel we are getting somewhere that would be great but if not, I may just forget it for now, Im saving up for a new comp anyways. It would be great tofix this one, alot of memories in this one but It getting old just scanning everything to death without any results or solutions. I appreciate all you are doing. Let me know if anything comes up, until then, if then, I will not bother you anymore about it. I may just deal with a crappy computer for a while until I save up enough money for another one.. take care Lisa Goyette
Hello Leese1c

I may just deal with a crappy computer for a while until I save up enough money for another one

There is no reason you should have to deal with your machine in its present state. I believe it can be cleaned, but we need to run tools in order to clean it and it will require some patience on your part.

just getting tired of doing the same thing a thousand times a day

I am quite certain I have not asked you to run a thousand scans, and while cleaning your system may take some time, I did make a very polite and respectful point of stating that fact to you in my opening introduction:

Please note that there is no "Quick Fix" to modern malware infections and we may need to use several different approaches to get your system clean.

Im kinda done with scans and all that. I dont want to damage my compter further

These scans are not damaging your machine in any way. We need scans to enable us to diagnose exactly what is wrong and I would be doing you a disservice by running tools without a complete diagnosis of the initial problem.

Now we have the scans we require, the next step is to run ComboFix. From what I gather the reason why you are unable to see the ComboFix icon on your desktop is because your Firefox may not be configured to save the downloaded files to your desktop. Should you wish to continue please do the following:

  • Please open Firefox and click on the "Tools" tab and select "Options".
  • Click on the "General" tab.
  • In the general page, you will see a section called "Downloads".
  • Place a check mark against "Save files" to the click on the browse button and select "Desktop", then click on okay.
  • All downloads should now appear on your desktop.

Please click on Link 1 to download ComboFix to your desktop (post number #10). If the download fails please try link number two. If the download was successful, you should now be able to see the ComboFix icon on your desktop.

Once downloaded, follow the instructions I provided in my last post and post the ComboFix log in your next reply :)
