I have not purposely added any Add-Ons to Firefox or to anything else. I don't know of any Add-Ons that seemed to try to be add themselves without my allowing. I never use Add-Ons. I started Mozilla Firefox in Safe Mode and when it prompted…. Firefox is now running in Safe Mode, which temporarily disables your custom settings, themes, and extensions. You can make some or all of these changes permanent…. Disable all add-ons Reset toolbars and controls Reset bookmarks to Firefox defaults Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults Restore default search engines (Make Changes and Restart) Continue in Safe Mode Exit …..I did NOT check any of the boxes. I still do not see the thumbnails and when I click into a posting followed by "pic" there are no pics inside. - - - - - "try turning off zone alarm and any popup blockers your web browser uses, or try another web browser. if you can then see them it will give you a place to start looking for the problem." I will try turning off ZoneAlarm, but it's been in use on my laptop for years and the craigslist problem started only recently….
I rightclicked my ZoneAlarm icon and…. Shutdown ZoneAlarm Closing ZoneAlarm will disable its Internet security features. Are you sure you want to quit? Yes Still no thumbnails. Still no "pics". I notice with this search, if the listing is followed by "img" I see the image inside the posting. If it is followed by "pic" nothing is inside. Most of the listings I want to search use the "pic" version. How do I try another web browser?
Well, darn. I decided to go have a look at CraigsList from this machine. XP Home SP3 browsing with Firefox 3.6.13 MSE antivirus, and Malwarebytes - realtime, native XP firewall And I see any/all images… at least all those that I have browsed so far. ____________________ In Firefox - Tools - options - Content Do you have the item "Load images automatically" checkmarked?
I don't see an Explorer icon right off on my desktop. I may have gotten rid of it after seeing so many good reviews for Firefox. How do I re-add Explorer?
terry1966- From what I can tell "pic" is the standard, oldschool way of adding a picture/image of small file size. I think craigslist allows you to add 4. From their site…. "Can I add a picture to my posting? In some categories, you will be offered the option to Add Images to your posting during the posting process. Additionally, you can do that using the HTML [image unavailable: image] tag, but the picture must already be on a site someplace. There are many free web hosting sites on the internet where you can upload your picture, just type in "free web hosting" into your search engine. Make sure that the site allows you to link to their site from another. If it's on a site, say on www.craigslist.org, in a directory called /about/teamPix, and named homer.gif, you'd code: [external image: craig!] "
ok but what we need to know is the extension, if the file is a jpeg file for example, when we know that we can check if you can see other files with the same extension or get you to add the correct codec for viewing such files and see if that fixes the problem.
Since you are running XP…. You "do" have Internet Explorer. It would have taken a monumental effort to get rid of it, and other things would have gotten broke in the process. Have a look in Start - All Programs - Internet Explorer
Doug- "It would have taken a monumental effort to get rid of it, and other things would have gotten broke in the process." Well….. back in December of 2009 a lot of things got broke when I encountered malware (?) "Internet Security 2010 - System Scan - Security Warning". I did NOT buy anything, but it took a monumental effort to get things running again. Thanks to WTT for help back then. And I think there are still one or two issues. Let's see…. Sometimes I can't see things when they're right in front of my face…… Start All Programs Install Netscape Internet Service Set Program Access and Defaults Windows Catalog Windows Update New Office Document Open Office Document Accessories Broadcom Catalyst Control Center Dell Dell Accessories Dell QuickSet Dell Wireless Games Google Desktop Jav Web Start Modem Helper NetWaiting QuickTime Sonic Startup Trend Micro PC-cillin WordPerfect Office 12 Media Center Microsoft Plus! Well, kapusta I do appreciate your sense of humor. :)

Have a look in Accessories - System Tools….. do you see Internet Explorer (no add-ons)

Also have a look in C:\program files\Internet Explorer

It's possible that Internet Explorer exists in your system, but that the short-cuts have been lost.
"How about a file named iexplore.exe" I only have iexplore.exe.mui (12 KB) When I search "iexplore.exe" I only get the iexplore.exe.mui and something with an explorer-type "icon" I don't think that I want to go there. I clicked on it and it brought up something with Intergate for a title and I did not bother with formalities. I just hit the power button until the computer went off. Now that I have logged back on to Mozilla Firefox, I have ZoneAlart Security Alert REPEAT PROGRAM Windows Explorer is trying to access the Internet. Application: explorer.exe I think I want to Deny and "Remember this setting". Should it say "Internet Explorer" and not "Windows Explorer"? Anyway, when I had my malware / virus before, I can't say for sure, but I think that one of the recommended techniques against it was to move Internet Explorer to a different folder, or rename it, or both. Which was it? … Hmmmmm……
