Hi, I'm new to the forum and boy am I glad to see you guys.

I got a warning today from Trend Micro Internet Security Pro of suspicious activity coming from ff02:: It asked if I wanted to block or allow but the warning shut down before I could reply. Suddenly my firewall turned off. I tried to turn it back on and it won't stay on. I tried to turning on the Windows firewall as a backup and it won't stay on. I shut down my system and restarted, firewalls still will not come up. I ran a full security scan and it came up with nothing. Then I ran House Call, nothing. So I started my computer in safe mode and ran a scan, nothing. Then I did a system restore to a date earlier this month, firewalls still shut down. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Trend Micro and the firewall is back up for now but something must have caused this. My system has been running extremely slow yesterday and today also. I downloaded a software program from Smith Micro early this morning and it took 5 hours to download and should have taken maybe 20 minutes.

I read the instructions at the beginning of this forum and have ran Hijack This and OTL and have the logs. Which would you like first? It wouldn't let me run the 3rd item, something about my system. I have a 64-bit Windows 7 Dell Studio XPS.

Adding my logs for your convenience

< End of report >
Hi ,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

As we work through your logs. Please remember to run any tools by Right-clicking on the icon and selecting Run As Administrator….

Download TFC to your desktop
  • Close any open windows.
  • Double click the TFC icon to run the program
  • TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,
  • Click the Start button to begin the process.
  • Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.
  • The program should not take long to finish it's job
  • Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,
  • if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi Tomk, I get the 404 Not Found Error message when I try to open the link for TFC. I thought I best wait to hear from you before running the Malwarebytes in case the order needed to be very specific.
Sorry for delay in reply - an emergency came up and I had to be away for a couple of days. Here is my log. When I turned on my computer the other day I got the warning again about the ff02:: asking if i wished to block it and I said yes. Haven't had problems since then. pixie dust,

ffo2:: relates to IPv6 which relates to your network connection. I'm not finding any malware that might be causing the problem.

Let's get an online scan.

ESET Online Scanner:

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

Vista users: You will need to to right-click on the either the IE or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

  • Please go here then click on: [external image: Posted Image]

Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.

  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • The virus signature database… will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on: [external image: Posted Image]
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!
pixie dust,

Double click on OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

How are things seeming now?
The log is below. My computer seems to be running the same as it has after I blocked the ff02:: which is fine now - except that now after this fix I am missing my Dell docking station. No worries. I'll get it back. Thanks for your help TomK. We can close this file now. pixie dust,

Well, I'm glad things seem to be running OK. I'm not finding any malware. Let's clean up.

  • Double click on OTL to run it.
  • Click on CleanUp!
  • When done, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
