:notworthy: THANKS!
Hi there - lets run a little TLC first and then look deeper :)

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

NEXT

Download and run Puran Disc Defragmenter
For the first run I would recommend a boot defrag and disk check

[external image: Posted Image]

NOW TO SEE IF ANYTHING REMAINS

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Select All Users
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT

  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Post both logs
Thanks for your help Essexboy!

:notworthy: THANK YOU AGAIN!!
That does not look to bad - has the speed increased any ?

Do you have any other problems ?

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :OTL
IE - HKU\S-1-5-21-1365862067-1757624153-4106115750-1001\..\URLSearchHook: {E38FA08E-F56A-4169-ABF5-5C71E3C153A1} - Reg Error: Key error. File not found

    :Files
    ipconfig /flushdns /c

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
Well, here are my current user problems: it takes 2-3 minutes or more to download an internet page (and sometimes it never happens). My email is not loading now either on my desktop (but I can get it on my ipad). My internet speed on laptops is too slow for streaming or watching videos such as youtube. Have had my isp reboot my connection several times but it makes no difference. My user experience was actually BETTER with the malware - as soon as I removed it, the speed became painfully slow and my email just never arrived. I don't know if I have some other issue besides leftovers from MyWebSearch, but I sure would like my speed back B)

All scans are complete and here is the latest OTL quick scan result:

========== Purity Check ==========

< End of report >

THANKS AGAIN!!!!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOh! Just want to say that i rebooted my internet connection yet again and this time downloading is working at a normal pace!!! I don't know what that last scan says but I can def live with what I have going on now :woot: If it looks to you like anything else should be removed/fixed let's do it, otherwise… THANK YOU Essexboy
Well you cleared the malware - and I just reset your network connections, cleared some rubbish and got you to tidy the drive :)

Looking at that I am a happy bunny :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day —– Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself. MBAM can be uninstalled via control panel add/remove along with ERUNT. But they may be useful tools to keep

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

SPRING CLEAN

To manually create a new Restore Point

  • Go to Control Panel and select System
  • Select System
  • On the left select System Protection and accept the warning if you get one
  • Select System Protection Tab
  • Select Create at the bottom
  • Type in a name i.e. Clean
  • Select Create

Now we can purge the infected ones

  • GoStart > All programs > Accessories > system tools page
  • Select Performance Information and Tools
  • Right click Disc cleanup an select run as administrator
  • Select Your main drive and accept the warning if you get one
  • For a few moments the system will make some calculations
  • Select the More Options tab
  • In the System Restore and Shadow Backups select Clean up
  • Select Delete on the pop up
  • Select OK
  • Select Delete

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

[external image: Posted Image] Malwarebytes. Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit
  • Microsoft Windows Update

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?
Keep safe :wavey:
Well… all clean with a nifty restore point :D Thank you for the article - I went to town and now have backup with DriveImage, KeyScrambler, TFC, Filehippo, OpenDNS, and have switched to Chrome as my default browser. I think, also, that when my subscription is up I will ditch Norton for MalwareBytes etc… Thank you again for your invaluable assistance. Was able to stream effortlessly last night from Netflix and had a Ong Bak double feature  I am thrilled with my experience here and will be sure to recommend Whatthetech at every opportunity!! Let me know if there is anything else - otherwise - have a beautiful day :wavey:

when my subscription is up I will ditch Norton for MalwareBytes etc

Malwarebytes is a malware tool and is a different animal from an Antivirus, you will need both for a layered defence. If you wish I can give you some links for free AV's that are as good as norton B)
