Hi,

Having some issues - Google redirect (using Safari only), only some audio is working (no iTunes sound, games have some sound but not others), desktop appearance is different to normal.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers Chris.
Also meant to mention some additional problems - I installed both Spybot and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as I thought they may be able to find/fix some problems. But when I tried to start either one from the desktop, the hourglass icon came up for a second, and then nothing. They will not run. Strange.
Hi,

Please do the following:

Please download DDS from either of these links

LINK 1
LINK 2

and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable.
  • Double click the exe file.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries

Hi,

Please do the following:

This next program, ComboFix, is needed to remove the malware entries I see. However…AVG incorrectly targets ComboFix's embedded files. ComboFix will not run with AVG installed. Please uninstall AVG before continuing. You can reinstall it, or another antivirus such as Microsoft Security Essentials, Avira or avast!, after we've used ComboFix to clear the remaining infection.

After uninstalling AVG from the Control Panel, also run the AVG remover from their site.

http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools

direct link to the AVG Remover:

http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/suppo…6_2011_1149.exe

You may also use this tool to uninstall AVG:
http://www.appremover.com/appremover/avg/AppRemover.exe

Instructions:
http://www.appremover.com/about/using-appremover.html

NEXT

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
Hi, I uninstalled AVG and disabled other antispyware (as far as I can tell). Tried to run ComboFix but it refuses to run - I double click on it and nothing happens. Any ideas?
Please delete the copy of ComboFix that you have on your desktop and download a fresh copy, but this time, rename it to iexplore before saving it to your desktop.

Now run it, if it still won't run, try running it in safe mode:

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY repeatedly,
  • this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
  • go into your usual account
Hi, I deleted Combofix, re-downloaded it and renamed it to iexplore.exe - it then started up ok. When it got to the part about the Recovery Console, it prompted me to connect to the internet to download/install Recovery Console (the internet was already connected of course), I hit OK and then it (wrongly) said the internet was not connected and it went ahead with the malware search anyway. After a while it rebooted after finding a Rootkey, when it restarted a blue Combofix window came up with a blinking cursor but nothing else. I left it like this for several hours in case it was slowly getting through it, but no, no change at all. I eventually shut down Combofix and have done nothing more. I don't think I did anything wrong, is there something else I can do? I really appreciate your help by the way! Cheers Chris.
reboot the machine, then check and see if there is a log at c:\combofix.txt

If there is no log, please boot into safe mode and run ComboFix in safe mode, if ComboFix reboots again, make sure you boot back into safe mode so that it can generate a log:

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY repeatedly,
  • this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
  • go into your usual account
No log present, so started in Safe Mode.

Once again Combofix said it wasn't connected to the internet (connection was actually ok) so didn't download the Recovery Console.

But it did produce a log:
