So for about a few weeks now I've noticed my browser has been hijacked by some sort of trojan that is frustrating the hell out of me. I am sure this is a rootkit trojan that has very random effects. No matter what I do on the web 1 of 3 things will happen: 1 possible thing is that it will allow me to go the site I have requested. 2nd possible thing it will do is REDIRECT me to a google search of the site i was attempting to access. 3rd and most frustrating of all is that it will just tell me that "Check internet connection" and a blank page. I have Norton 2011 and I have tried using Malware bytes but still nothing works. Please (as everyone here ask) help me with this problem before I give up and just use my new laptop as a very nice looking paperweight. Here is the hijackthis report:

Please do not reply to your own topic here until after you have received a response from one of our Specialists.

My Reason: When Malware Team looks for new posts to assist, they look for those who have not yet received a reply.
Hello seriouscode. Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:
  • Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I’ve given you the “All clear.” Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean!
  • Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.
  • Any underlined text in my posts indicates a clickable link.
  • If you have any questions at all, please stop and ask before proceeding.
🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.

DDS.scr
DDS.com
DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.
🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop.
  • Double click the exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries

If you have trouble running GEMR:
  • Make sure that your security software is disabled
  • Uncheck the box next to "Files" this time also
  • If you still can't run it, try in the Safe Mode
Please include the following in your next post:
  • DDS.txt and Attach.txt logs
  • GMER log
RPMcMurphy thank you so much for the quick reply! I know it's not a gaurentee but already I am so very happy I got a reply lol. Ok here are the post you requested for my hijacked PC.

Just a heads up, I am keeping my hijacked PC offline, so I at this time I am only using my work Laptop.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Download Combofix from either of the links below, and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

——————————————————————–
IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link
——————————————————————–

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • If you have trouble, stop and post back. Do not try to repeatedly run comboFix!
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
.
Please include the following in your next post:
  • ComboFix log
RPMcMurphy, Ok for starters, I did the combofix on the desktop once and immediately I got the blue screen of horrible death, but the second time….. Again I got the blue screen of horrible death. both times the system restarted itself. I read your post and am afraid of trying it again a third time for the simple fact that I doubt I will produce a different result. So, what's next?
seriouscode:

Let's see if it left a log for me:

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Click Start > Run or press Windows Key + R copy/paste the following into the run box that opens and press OK:
c:\ComboFix.txt

If a log opens, stop here and post it. If no log is found, do this:

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Download TDSSKiller.zip and extract TDSSKiller.exe to your desktop
  • Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.
  • Press Start Scan
  • If Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected. Important - If there is no option to "Cure" it is critical that you select "Skip"
  • Then click Continue > Reboot now
  • Once complete, a log will be produced in c:\. It will be named for example, TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_24.07.2010_13.10.52_log.txt
  • Attach that log, please.
Please include the following in your next post:
  • ComboFix log or the TDSSKiller log
RPMcMurphy,

RPMcMurphy, Funny thing about that file you asked me to check out. I created that a long time ago for some obscure reason. Either way, I did try to do the scan like requested, but there was nothing in the file to scan. Just an empty file. RPMcMurphy,

I just got the weirdest thing. I shutdown my PC after the last fix we had to just basically turn it off. (It's a laptop and didn't want to ruin the battery life by just keeping it on all the time) Also, I didn't think there would be any harm in doing so, but now I can't boot my PC. It stays on the loading screen of windows right before it goes into the login screen. It's were it says "Please Wait" and it just stays there for about 4 mins, then a "Run time error" occurs. This is what it reads:

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

What did we do to the computer to make it do that?

With that said, I haven't been able to log on and try the last requested piece you asked of me.
RPMcMurphy,

Ok I thought about it for a little bit and I do have a small amount of knowledge of MSConfig, and I remebered I fiddeled with a little before we started our logs on whatthetech. I started the laptop i "Safe Mode" and went in MSConfig. I noticed that on the boot tab, the boot process was on "selective startup," so I switched it to "Normal startup." ( I know "Selective" is fine and all it does is startup using the programs I have selected for it to start. Only thing is, I don't remember messing with that part, but it worked.) I booted up again in "Normal Startup" and it works fine after that. Problem is that now I have to do that every time I boot. I am going to do the scan you asked me to in the previous post and post the report, but along with that I will also post a "Hijackthis" report after.

Here is the ESET log:

Nothing. No threats or viruses recorded. There was no log to post.

as for the HJK log here is that:

any idea why my system is having trouble booting up without me being having to start it up through "Safe Mode" first, then booting up normal?
seriouscode:
