Hi,

Please follow these steps:

Step 1 | Please Run OTL.exe
  • Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

    :OTL

    :Files
    E:\Documents and Settings\Les\Application Data\49E675F611B159799C77249896186261\

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyFlash]
    [emptytemp]
    [createrestorepoint]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot when it is done.
  • It will produce a log for you on reboot, please post that log in your next reply.

Step 2 | Let's defragment your hard drive. This operation may take several hours, so it would be a good idea to star it just before going to work, school, bed, etc.

  • Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter
  • Click on the Analyze button.
  • Let the analyzer run, it takes 5-10 mins or so, sometimes longer, depending on your disk size.
  • When finished it will pop up a window telling you whether you need to defrag or not.
  • If you need to defrag click the Defragment button. As I said before, this process may take several hours, depending on your hard drive.

How's the machine working now?
Hi, thisgs look a lot better and the machine is running much quicker. Having run the defrag using analyze it says defrag not required, but I tend to run it on a fairly regular basis. Regards Les
Hi sorry forgot to add log from step 1 Regards Les All processes killed ========== OTL ========== ========== FILES ========== E:\Documents and Settings\Les\Application Data\49E675F611B159799C77249896186261 folder moved successfully. ========== COMMANDS ========== [EMPTYFLASH] User: All Users User: Default User ->Flash cache emptied: 0 bytes User: Les ->Flash cache emptied: 1626 bytes User: LocalService User: NetworkService User: test ->Flash cache emptied: 0 bytes Total Flash Files Cleaned = 0.00 mb
Hi,

Im glad to hear that. Apparently there's no more malware in your machine, so I'll give you the last steps:

Step 1 | Clean up with OTL

  • Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
  • On the OTL main screen, press the CLEANUP button
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.
  • Now, from the desktop, delete any logs that you have left over. You may also uninstall ESET Online Scanner from Add/Remove programs in your control panel.

Step 2 | System Restore Reset

  • Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools.
  • Launch the Disk Cleanup tool and let it run.
  • When it finishes a box with tabs will appear, select the more options tab.
  • On this tab you will find a section for System Restore.
  • If you press the Clean Up button for that section, Windows will delete all restore points except for the most recent one.

Step 3 | Enabling your security software again.

Please ensure to enable both Avira Antivir and Outpost Firewall.

Last Step | Now, in order to avoid future infections, please take time to read the following articles:

Read those articles and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested. I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can then be closed. Posted Image
Hi, I installed Avira Antivirus and all was ok but since then I have installed the firewall software (having stopped the Windows options of course) and I am unable now to stop acs.exe from executing. ps I am sending this from my wifes laptop. Regards Les
Hi, since my last posting I started the machine in safe mode and uninstalled the firewall and the machine was then restarted. I switched the Windows firewall option back on and all seems to be ok. Thanks. Regards Les
Hi,

The process acs.exe belongs to Outpost. If you had installed this firewall again, why were you trying to stop it's process?

If you were trying to temporarily disable Outpost, this would be the right way:

  • Navigate to the system tray on the bottom right hand corner and look for either one of the following three (the sign varies depending on the settings you chose on your PC) [external image: Posted Image]/[external image: Posted Image] /[external image: Posted Image] signs.
  • Right click it-> select "Firewall Policy…".
  • Chose "Disable."
  • You will now see a sign like this [external image: Posted Image] in the systemtray.
Hi, I am not sure what happened, but I have since installed Online Armor and thing appear to be working fine. Thanks again for your help. Regards Les
