Hello guys,

My internet explorer crashes after some time, especially after increased activity. My google chrome crashes as soon as i put in any website. It sends a normal Error Message that says windows encountered a problem. Even when I close internet explorer at any time, it gives me that error message after closing it. I have made Google Chrome as my default browser and so whenever I open a link from my email it opens it absolutely fine in google chrome. If I put in any address in the address bar: it gives me that error. I ran a scan with MalwareBytes and removed whatever it found.

I also ran a scan with spybot and removed the problems. However, Spybot is unable to update itself to the latest definitions. As soon as i want to download the updates, it gives me an error box without a title saying "An outsider did inject malicious code in this application! It is strongly recommended that you do a full check-up of your system, including anti-malware and anti-virus scans."

I have updated the Java also using Java ra and have removed all the previous versions. I have also used CCleaner to clean up the registry errors. Attached is my Hijackthis log. Please advise.

Go HERE to get a randomly named copy of GMER. Scroll down to the Download section and click Download EXE. Save it to your desktop.

Before scanning with GMER, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

  • Double click on the file you downloaded. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your next reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries

If GMER will not run in normal windows, please run it in Saffe Mode

Please post back with
  • VirusTotal results
  • Both OTL logs
  • GMER log

Thanks
I try to attach files and paste or attach GMER results also but it keeps giving me an error that "you must enter a post". my gmer is also about 1.97 mb. even after pasting, it takes a while to process it and pastes it fine but when i click add reply it gives me that error.
Hi galaxy,

Try zipping the GMER log then attach it.

I requested you to submit a file to VirusTotal did you have problems doing so?

There is evidence of an autorun infection on a drive with the letter F:\. This drive is most likely a USB storage device such as a jump drive, phone, external hard drive. ipod, etc. How many usb storage devices do you have and what drive letters do they use?

Please post the MBAM log(s) from when you used it to clean the computer. You can find the logs on the logs tab in MBAM. Click on the log you wish to view and click open. It will open in notepad.

Thanks
Yes, I had problems with VirusTotal. At first, even after I pasted the link and click upload, it kept bringing me back to the same page where I needed to enter the file name. I upgraded my IE6 to IE8 and now the crashing problem has gone away. Google Chrome is not crashing either. I am still not able to attach GMER zipped logs. It gives me an error saying you are not permitted to upload this type of file. My local drives are C and D. I believe there was a USB flash drive attached when I scanned the computer and posted the results. That might be F drive and it might have something in it which I will clean up using symantec antivirus. Do you recommend any other way of cleaning a USB flash drive of any potential viruses or spywares or autorun infections? I am upgrading my Windows to SP3 also. It seems that the problem that I was having with Internet Explorer and Google Chrome has gone away. Need I do any more cleaning after you have looked at my scan logs? I am attaching results of a Quick Scan with MBAM and a full scan with MBAM.
Hi galaxy,

When you attempted to attach the GMER log what was the extention name? The error message you rcieved indicates the file may have had an unallowed extention.

MBAM got most of it. We can remove the rest of what is showing in the logs.

Before running this tool attach the USB jump drive to the computer. Hold the shift key down while attaching the jump drive, this will prevent it from autorunning.

There will not be any visible window when this tool runs.

Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder…it will help protect your drives from future infection.

Keep the flashdrive attached to the computer for the remained of the fix.

Next, Double click on OTL.exe
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
  • Do Not copy the word CODE
  • please note the fix starts with the :
:Services

:OTL
O33 - MountPoints2\{4a6b70ee-9718-11df-a923-6cf049a2282a}\Shell\AutoRun\command - "" = F:\ca.exe

:Commands

[emptytemp]
[Reboot]

Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered
  • Please save the resulting log to be posted in your next reply.
Please post the OTL log.

You have this program installed, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM). Please update it and run a scan.

  • Click the Update tab
  • Click Check for Updates
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • The program will close to update and reopen.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan",
  • Make sure all drives are selected (C,D,F) then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

I am also uploading the gmer.zip file after zipping it successfully and attaching it. This GMER is from before if you refer to the replies above. I am not sure if you still need it but I had it saved anyway.

Hi galaxy,

Looks better. How's the computer?

One more scan to check for remnants.

*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so there are no conflicts and it will speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once the scan is finished remember to re-enable your antivirus along with your antispyware programs.

Go here to run an online scannner from
ESET

(Note: You can use Internet Explorer or FireFox for this scan. If you use FireFox you will be asked to install an additional component, please do so.)

  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Disable your Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notfication Tray icon near the clock
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Unchecked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is Checked.
  • Click Scan.
  • Wait for the scan to finish.
  • Re-enable your Antivirus software.
  • A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. or C:\Program Files\ESET\log.txtWe will need this later.
Please post back with the ESET log.

Thanks
