sound drivers/speakers

it says the drivers for the hardware were successfully installed but could not find the hardware (code41)
had some help on virus/malware removal with TomK and tried several things that didnt work heres the forum link for what we all did

sounds to me like windows may be loading the wrong driver for your sound device,

can you visit this site and run the "OverDrive" test (DO NOT install and run PC Matic by mistake) :- http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/default.asp

then after you've run the tests, copy and paste the url of the results page from your browser into your next post.

this should then give us all your hardware specs so we can point you to the correct sound driver to install,

with any luck that's all it should take to fix your problem.

terry1966, I'm out of my element with this… but some of my research shows filters as the possible problem. What do you think?

what sort of filters you talking about?? firewall filters?? os filters??

first thing i'd do is make sure he's using the correct driver,
i'm thinking the original driver got corrupted by the malware somehow and an incorrect driver is being re-installed,
if it was an actual chipset/hardware physical problem i wouldn't expect the device to show up in the device manager at all.

so if it doesn't work after installing the correct driver then yes we'll have to start looking at a software problem tying up/blocking the device somehow.

is there any other test i can run? because whenever i download the plugin for mozilla or ie it still doesnt work :\ so idk wats going on wiht it

When you try to run Overdrive in IE… do you get a little "pop-up" at the top of the page that you need to accept the download of the ActiveX driver?

err no it just says install the missing plugin on the deal which is what i do and then i run it it installs i try the webpage and boom it wants me to redownload since the plugin doesnt work right i guess (i get that x in the top left corner on the scan page).

we can do without the test if you can provide us with the make and model of your computer or even better the actual motherboard make and model and sound card make and model if you have one installed, but would prefer the test results if you could persevere and get it to run please.

overdrive will only run in ie, like tomk mentioned.

if it still won't work whatever is stopping it might also be the problem with your sound.

also it identified sun java updater as a trojan spyware because of its file location not being in the java folder if you want to take a look at that

You're misreading that part about Java update scheduler. Yours is in the correct place and is not a trojan.
