Hi! I have a Hp Pavilion dv5 1233, running with Vista 64 and Office 2007. Everything was running slow or not responding. I did a number of things; ensuring that Rogers Online Protection was running, and there were no viruses or spyware detected (yield manager did show up but then disappeared). I downloaded Spybot, Spyblaster. I ran diagnostics from HP Support; everything is up to date. I used to use Google Chrome, but cannot download any files from my yahoo mail. I constantly get 'not responding' in all my applications. I worked with one of the pro's at safe networking and we did a number of things, any potential threats have been removed. The issues that remain are that I cannot delete anything. Everything 'hangs' and I am forced to cancel the process, initiate task manager and end the task. I did some research and I wonder if there is a corrupt file. I also tried to delete the recycling bin but still no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ange
Hi Lee, Thanks for your response. I did run sfc /scannow and the results showed that there were some files it could not repair. I did some reading but was getting different suggestions on what to do. One of which was to insert the OS CD; I did not recieve a Vista CD when I purchased the laptop. I did not pursue it any further because I had been working on uncovering the malware or virus. Some things I did was running diagnostics with HP and Windows Repair Registry. I had difficulty downloading Hijack this, Rootkit Uninstaller, TISS Killer and other applications that Safer Networking was trying to use to resolve the problem. After all of this, things are running better, however, deleting files is a problem and downloading from yahoo mail while using Google Chrome. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thank you, Ange
I note that your SuperAntiSpyware report brought up the Trojan: Trojan.Agent/Gen-Nullo[Micro] Whether or not SuperAntiSpyware was able to remove or quarantine it is not known from that thread. If it is still active, it will be causing you OS trouble. It seems you have been a member since 2005 of "widgets.cracked.com" (?). This site's downloads are all illegal program 'cracks'. A great place to receive Melware as a certainty. Cheers, Lee
Hi Lee, Do I run another scan?? Also, I have only had the laptop for a year…what is this 'widget.cracked.com'??? Thanks for your help, Ange
Forget about 'widget.cracked.com'. You never want ot go there unless you want Melware overload.

Could you please run an Overdrive test and post the URL of the test here.
Registering and accepting the ActiveX are both SAFE and FREE.

Before making any other changes, let's get a better overview from PCPitstop OverDrive.
In order to receive the full benefit and display the full Results of OverDrive, it is necessary to run Internet Explorer - As Administrator.
to do so:

Close all instances of Internet Explorer
Click on the Vista Start Orb in the lower left corner of your Desktop
Select - All Programs
Near the Top of the list, you will see Internet Explorer
Right-Click on Internet Explorer
You will now see a menu that will allow you to "Run as Administrator"
This will give your machine full privilege to take advantage of all the features of PCPitstop OverDrive Full Tests.

Navigate to http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/
Select - OverDrive
Sign up and log in to download the harmless Active X.
Run PCPitstop Overdrive
Post the link to your fresh Results.

Caution: During the testing of Video Adapter, a variety of patterns, shapes, colors and text are “flashed” onto the users monitor screen. In the many thousands of daily uses of the PCPitstop Full Tests over several years, two individuals who suffer epilepsy experienced discomfort and temporary dizziness when viewing the flashing patterns.
If you know that you are susceptible to photo driven seizure, please look away from your screen during the Video Adapter testing sequence.

Note: The PCPitstop Full Tests Results is a free service, but is supported by various paid product that we do not endorse.

Cheers,
Lee
Hi Lee, I did as you instructed. I was not sure where to pull the results, so I took the 'Advice' section and have copied and pasted below. When I clicked the Security section, it stated that no malware was found. Hi Ange8889,

The PCPitstop OverDrive Full Tests will scan and provide some interesting performance and configuration information that will help both you and Lee, and other Techs, better understand what may be presently happening with your computer.

Unhappily, that darn PCPitstop Home page has become so cluttered that it is confusing for the first-time visitor.

Here's a couple of screen shots to help you navigate to the OverDrive test which Lee has suggested.

Here's where to click for OverDrive

Here's where to start your Registration to use Overdrive

And here is a page that offers some assistance with how to use OverDrive Results - called TechExpress.

When your PCPitstop OverDrive Results summary page is displayed to you after the OverDrive tests are complete… That is the page-link that will help us help you.

Hi Doug and Lee, Thanks for the information. Hi Ange, Please post the URL address for that page. Lee and other Techs can then browse the entire OverDrive test Results to help you discover what may be going on. No personally identifying information is available to anyone but you, the owner. PCPitstop OverDrive removes any IP address and other personally identifying information, before Results are linked. Hi again, Here are some of the specifics that pulled from each of the headings: Upgrade disk drive space: Drive C:\ has only 22 percent of its space available. Drive D:\ has only 16 percent of its space available. Of the total 298.09 GB of disk space available on this system, just 65.35 GB (22%) is still available. The rest is being used by existing program and data files. Update your AntiSpyware Your most recently updated AntiSpyware application had signatures that were 17 days old when last checked. We consider signature files that are more than 8 days old to be stale. Defragment files Drive C has 0% of its files fragmented, and a total of 28% of its data in fragmented files. You should defragment drives as soon as possible for best performance. ****Note: I tried to run a defrag but it just hangs… Update Device Drivers Update Drivers Analysis Our tests indicate that this PC has one or more drivers that need updating. Adjust Browser Cache Size The maximum size of your Internet Explorer browser cache is 1024 megabytes. This is a larger value than we recommend. Check Background Programs This system had a CPU load of 53 percent during testing. This usually indicates that one or more programs were running that may have interfered with test measurements and may be causing slow performance. Hoping this gives more insight, Ange
Let's give it one more try to get the correct link… Here's a screen shot of where you will see the needed link. You can simply copy/paste the URL from the Address Bar. 📎OverDrive_Results_URL_link.jpg That is an actual "live" link to a machine that I have worked on. A lenovo, running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. you can type in the URL into your own browser address bar, to go see what can be seen. It won't be necessarily helpful to your own present situation, but may satisfy your curiosity about what is seen when you post your own. Best Regards
