not to worry both lee and doug will give the results a good look over and come back, the laptop itself is a good laptop we just need to figure out where the problem lays, must admit i'm no expert like those two where windows is concerned and there seems to be quite a few things i find unusual in your results, like the make/model of mainboard not being listed, that may not be that unusual to those two.
not really, hitting fix and not hitting fix wouldn't of made the slightest difference in the long run, lee just said to do it because he thought you were already still there, and might of well take advantage of it.
lets start by seeing if windows updates have the drivers that the test said need updating..

You can check Windows Update anytime to see if it has found new drivers for your hardware. Then, you can install them if you choose. Here's how:

1.

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.‌ Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2.

In the left pane, click Check for updates.
3.

To see if updated drivers are available, click View available updates. Windows Update will list any updated drivers that are available for devices installed in your computer.
4.

If updates are available, click the driver that you want to install, and then click Install. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

if there are any then please install them.

it says no important updates available. it is on auto update so its regularly done. theres 4 optional ones, atheros wireless network provider, realtek driver update, synaptics input touchpad and windows powershell, do i need any of these? i dont use the mouse pad i have an external mouse. i dont think the realtek one is the same as on the results the one available is Realtek driver update for Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller Download size: 191 KB
no probs..

i just noticed this

google toolbar was removed when i reset ie, i readded it again afterwards as i use it a lot.

can you please reset ie again but this time don't add anything back and use it for a few days to see if still you have the freeze problem, i think with vista there's been a few add ons that can cause problems, also what version of ie are you running again??

if after a few days there's been no problems, then we can start adding your add ons back, but one at a time and see when the problem shows up again.

also after you've reset it could you run the test again and post the results for me.

yes install the optional atheros wireless network provider, realtek driver update please. then do what i asked in above post please and repost another test.
dont forget that other thing i was asked to use the other day, froze also not just ie. ive always had google toolbar on, its never caused probs before. im running the newest ie. 9 isnt it? adding those updates now

Pulsebabe,

You were correct to not hit fix.
that was for a paid product PCMatic, which is a fine program for general optimizing, but we would rather do the same "fixes" manually here with help from our forum techs. (In general, automatic fix utilities can make too many mistakes and/or fix some things that you didn't want changed).

Please be patient while the folks here review your Overdrive Results.

Best Regards

PCPitstof is a VERY confusing site. I fell into that PCmatic trap too, thinking it was the free OverDrive test.
PCmatic doesn't actually 'fix' anything …unless you buy the program
One to avoid I think.

Does anyone know of anything similar to 'Overdrive' that is:
(a) is not so confusing
(B) is freeware
© has results that can be copied and pasted ?

Cheers,
Lee

if your running ie 9 i think you should go back to ie 8 but lee will know that better than me.

I had no idea you were using IE9 pulsebaby.

Rolling back to IE 8 might be a good move as I'd be interested to know if you experience the same problems as you are having now.

I rolled back to IE 8 from IE 9 some time ago as it can be quite buggy and still in Beta form I think.

Cheers,
Lee
ive had no problems with 9 until 2 wks ago though? if you think i still need to go back, please let me know how to do it, thanks….isnt there a new beta version as well?
nope, and the over drive test doesn't seem to be as comprehensive as i remembered it, was sure before it showed all running processes but doesn't now.

lee isn't ie 9 a beta?? and do you think pulsebabe should uninstall it and go back to ie 8??

this is a link to how to pulsebabe but i'd wait for lee's ok first, he might have better instructions too. :- http://www.ehow.com/how_6001384_uninstall-…dows-vista.html
