Re-post as original post was blank:
I am infected with a virus. Norton found an HTTP Nukesploit Request, and didn't do anything with it. My problem is similar to this guy's, but I didn't want to use his custom fix in case mine's different.
I ran OTL and am including the log files (OTL.txt and Extras.txt) below. Can anyone help? Thank you!

Hi CogitaTute,

:welcome:

My name is NightWizard and I will be your helper. :)

While I go through your log, I would very much appreciate it if you read the following.

  • I aim provide you with the best instructions possible to resolve your issue. However, I ask that you understand that malware is complex and the process usually takes a few attempts before successfully cleaning everything out. In severe cases cleaning may not be possible and a reformat may be our only option.
  • If you are unresponsive to this thread within three days, the thread will be locked due to inactivity. However, if you will be away, let us know and we will be sure to keep the thread open.
  • Please do not make any new threads about this issue here or any other malware removal forum; it wastes other helpers' time and it can be dangerous for your PC.
  • If you don't understand a set of instructions or you are having trouble performing some of the fix, don't panic! Let me know and I will be happy to help in any way I can.
  • Please remember that the absence of symptoms does not mean you are clean. I request that you stick to this log until the very end - I will inform you when your system is clean.
  • Please do not use any tools other than the ones I instruct you to use. Some of the tools available can be dangerous if used incorrectly.

Please be advised that I am still in training at this forum. My posts will be checked by experts before I post in this thread. This is to ensure you get the best possible help available. This may cause delay however I will do my best to limit the time gaps between posts.

Thanks for choosing WhatTheTech and I will be back with a fix shortly! :)

Hi CogitaTute,

P2P Programs:

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

BitTorrent

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/commun…protection.mspx
http://www.techweb.com/wire/160500554
http://www.internetworldstats.com/articles/art053.htm

Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

My recommendation is you go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

If you choose not to remove them, please do not use them until this computer is clean.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable.
  • Double click the exe file.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries
Nightwizard, Thank you for helping me. I have been trying to run GMER like you described in the previous response, but it has been freezing my system. It runs for about 5-10 minutes, then freezes. I try Ctrl+Alt+Del, but not even the task manager pops up. I have had cold-reboot several times. I will try one more thing this evening and get back to you. Greg
Hi Cogita Tute,

You may have more success with GMER in Safe Mode.

To boot into safe mode:

Reboot, then tap the F8 key just before Windows starts to load and select the Safe Mode option from the menu.

Try scanning like previously instructed.
Nightwizard,
I tried a few things, got it scanned in regular mode, but then when I went to save the log file my system froze. I went ahead and scanned it in safe mode, and it worked fine. I don't know if it's missing something, though, because there was a LOT less text after scanning in Safe mode. Anyway, here it is:

Hi Cogita Tute,

Please work your way through the following steps:

Step 1

Please read through these instructions to familarize yourself with what to expect when this tool runs

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Nice!
Well, here's the ComboFix.txt, as an attachment and copied below:

Good Morning,

BitTorrent <–Using P2P (File Sharing ) is a bad move, your downloading that file from an unknown source, malware writers are in tune to this and using it as the latest way of infecting your computer. I would never allow any of these program types on any of my systems. That free program or music file may not be so free and its not worth the grief that may come with it.

Combofix logs are very complex, I need to go over it, in the meantime lets do this.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.

Please download Malwarebytes from Here or Here

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Post the report please
