Hi, hope you can help!! My laptop has become almost unusable due to slow speed and frequent memory errors. Rebooting helps for a while but gradually gets worse the longer it's running. So bad I can no longer run Mcafee anti virus, so very worried about security. :smack: HJT log pasted below, thanks in anticipation….

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.
  • You may need two posts to fit them both in.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries

OTL log
GMER log

Good Day!
Hi Conspire Will try to complete tomorrow howver (and may seem like a very niave question but….) the instruction •Download OTL to your desktop is one I'm not sure how to do, I had problem with HJT when I only had choice to save (which didn't result in having anyting on my desktop as far as I could tell) or run (which seems to be second step). Sorry to be obtuse but can can you describe this in more detail for a novice…. Many thanks. MythicalMa
No worries :) I would assume that you are using Internet Explorer as your primary browser, correct? - So when you start clicking on the OTL link, you would see a windows prompt which shows Run, Save, and Cancel button. As soon as you hit Save button, there is a Save As window pop up and you should be able to see big square Desktop button on your left pane. Click on it and proceed to hit Save at the very right corner, by then you should be able to see OTL icon on your desktop. To simplify things, Click OTL link -> Hit Save -> Select Desktop on your left pane -> Click Save
Thanks Conspire - here's the OTL.txt log I'll do a separate reply for Extras.Txt netsvcs drivers32 %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.* %systemroot%\Fonts\*.com %systemroot%\Fonts\*.dll %systemroot%\Fonts\*.ini %systemroot%\Fonts\*.ini2 %systemroot%\Fonts\*.exe %systemroot%\system32\spool\prtprocs\w32x86\*.* %systemroot%\REPAIR\*.bak1 %systemroot%\REPAIR\*.ini %systemroot%\system32\*.jpg %systemroot%\*.jpg %systemroot%\*.png %systemroot%\*.scr %systemroot%\*._sy %APPDATA%\Adobe\Update\*.* %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Favorites\*.* %APPDATA%\Microsoft\*.* %PROGRAMFILES%\*.* %APPDATA%\Update\*.* %systemroot%\*. /mp /s CREATERESTOREPOINT %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav %PROGRAMFILES%\bak. /s %systemroot%\system32\bak. /s %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\*.lnk /x %systemroot%\system32\config\systemprofile\*.dat /x %systemroot%\*.config %systemroot%\system32\*.db %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\*.lnk /x %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\*.exe %PROGRAMFILES%\Common Files\*.* %systemroot%\*.src %systemroot%\install\*.* %systemroot%\system32\DLL\*.* %systemroot%\system32\HelpFiles\*.* %systemroot%\system32\rundll\*.* %systemroot%\winn32\*.* %systemroot%\Java\*.* %systemroot%\system32\test\*.* %systemroot%\system32\Rundll32\*.* %systemroot%\AppPatch\Custom\*.* %APPDATA%\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\*.lnk /x %PROGRAMFILES%\PC-Doctor\Downloads\*.* %PROGRAMFILES%\Internet Explorer\*.tmp %PROGRAMFILES%\Internet Explorer\*.dat %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\*.exe %USERPROFILE%\*.exe %systemroot%\ADDINS\*.* %systemroot%\assembly\*.bak2 %systemroot%\Config\*.* %systemroot%\REPAIR\*.bak2 %systemroot%\SECURITY\Database\*.sdb /x %systemroot%\SYSTEM\*.bak2 %systemroot%\Web\*.bak2 %systemroot%\Driver Cache\*.* %PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\0*.exe %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Common\*.* %ProgramFiles%\TinyProxy. %USERPROFILE%\Favorites\*.url /x %systemroot%\system32\*.bk %systemroot%\*.te %systemroot%\system32\system32\*.* %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\*.dat /x %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.rmv dir /b "%systemroot%\system32\*.exe" | find /i " " /c dir /b "%systemroot%\*.exe" | find /i " " /c %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft\*.* %systemroot%\System32\Wbem\proquota.exe %PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\*.dat %USERPROFILE%\Cookies\*.txt /x %SystemRoot%\system32\fonts\*.* %systemroot%\system32\winlog\*.* %systemroot%\system32\Language\*.* %systemroot%\system32\Settings\*.* %systemroot%\system32\*.quo %SYSTEMROOT%\AppPatch\*.exe %SYSTEMROOT%\inf\*.exe %SYSTEMROOT%\Installer\*.exe HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs

========== Last 10 Event Log Errors ==========

Error reading Event Logs: The Event Service is not operating properly or the Event Logs are corrupt!

< End of report >
Hi :pullhair: Had a problem when running the GMER Rootkit scan, it ran for about an hour, then stalled and then my laptop re-booted itself. I got a Microsoft message saying … "The system has recovered from a serious error. A log of this error has been created. " then the usual please tell Microsfoft, with send / don't send buttons. The error signature was BCCode: f4 BCP1: 00000003 BCP2: FFA98DA0 BCP:FFA97F14 BCP4: 805FB066 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP:3_0 Product 768_1 There's also a filepath provided for 2 files about the error - should I try to attach these to a post? Should I try to re-run the scan? No output has been saved from the failed scan that I can find.
Hi,

Run OTL.exe
  • Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

    :OTL
    O4 - HKLM..\Run: [CFSServ.exe] File not found
    O4 - HKLM..\Run: [NDSTray.exe] File not found
    O4 - HKLM..\RunOnceEx: [] File not found

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot when it is done
  • Then post a new OTL log ( don't check the boxes beside LOP Check or Purity this time )
===================================================

Try to run GMER on Safe Mode if you could and check only the C:/ and Sections while leaving the rest uncheck.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode
Hi Conspire, thanks for you clear instructions, I'm finding them very helpful.

Output from OTL fix and then new OTL Log below. I assumed I should paste the same custom scan code as beforfe, hope that was right. I'll try to run the GMR scan in safe mode later today or tomorrow.

Output from OTL fix
All processes killed

Hi Conspire

The GMER scan (run in safe mode) ran for about 3 hours but with no output, the message was "GMER hasn't found any system modifications" with an OK box, nothing else. When I ran it before there was output but the laptop crashed before I could save it so guess the difference is either safe mode or that only C:/ and Sections were checked…?

Not sure if you meant for me to run the OTL scan again without the custom code? I did anyway, output below

Thanks again. MythicalMa

Hello,

Let's try the alternative for GMER.

Please download this file, and save it to your Desktop. Once you have downloaded it, save and close all other programs and run it by double-clicking on the file named "RootRepeal.exe".

Once the main window shows up, please click on the "Report" button on the bottom of the window. Next, please click the "Scan" button.

Another window will pop up asking you to select what to include in the scan. Please uncheck everything except for the "Stealth Code" checkbox, and then click OK.

Once the program has finished scanning, the results will appear. Click on the "Save Report" button, and save the report to your desktop.

Finally, please open this report with Notepad, and post it here.
