Hi here is a HJT log i think there is a lot of bloatware and unused programs in the list. Maybe some from the initial start of the computers life.

Link to malware removal thread…

What is happening..
Usually occurs when i am using firefox and oppening up multiple tabs. The fan in the computer speeds up, the program slows down and the the computer closes down.

I say close down because when it restarts it is a normal restart except for firefox saying it closed down unexpectedly.
There is none of the usually diagnostic screens saying the computer has crashed.

Thought the problem was FFox (usually the only program i use) however the closing down continued with other programs i used during the cleanup operation.

I have a Aspire laptop 5735 running windows vista.

Hi, This is typical behaviour when a machine is overheating and the thermal sensors are triggering an automatic shutdown to prevent further damage being caused. 1 When was the last time the machine was cleaned (internally to remove debris from around the CPU/heatsink and air vents?) 2 Has the machine been used at any time not on a hard surface..for example on a bed or a carpet etc? 3 Did you uninstall the Peer to Peer file sharing applications and delete all files downloaded via this?…I.E, all files where the provenance is not guaranteed? Regards paws
Hello PAWS >1 When was the last time the machine was cleaned (internally to remove debris from around the CPU/heatsink and air vents?) Never! Looks like I had better give the internals a clean. The computer has essentially been on 24 7 for most of it's life. >3 Did you uninstall the Peer to Peer file sharing applications … I have not removed Peer to Peer sharing applications - However these have not been run since the previous thread (limewirwe and uTorrent) >delete all files downloaded via this ? I believe I have deleted the files that have been identified as malware in the previous threads - I followed the OTL cleaning instructions. Can you see evidence that there is problems occuring here? I am away for a few days. Will clean computer when I get back Thanks for your help Jeff
Cleaned the internals of my laptop A lot of dust and debri on the fan housing and blades. Early days yet but no crashing so far. Still looking for the appropriate forum to safely remove the bloatware out of my hijackthis report without busting anything. cheers jeff
Hi Glad you performed the internal clean, depending on the environment you are working in, this should be done every 3 or 4 months. Heat is the enemy of electronics…… and if the electronics are permantly wearing a "fur coat" of dust fluff/debris etc it will shorten their life considerably. Now for some more internal cleaning but this time with your files/folders: 1 Your logs indicate that you have installed at some time P2P File sharing programs……..There are legitimate uses for P2P File sharing, but a lot that I come across are used for the downloading of files,(especially music, videos, games etc) that breach both National and International rules on copyright. There is currently a major crackdown on folks who use File Sharing to break copyright rules and heavy penalties are being imposed……often it's the young folks who are tempted to do this, their parents often being unaware, but it might be as well to check that your machine is squeaky clean in this respect, just to be on the safe side. File sharing is a well known vector for the distribution of malicious code and large numbers of machines are infected by this route, the effects can be devastating and sometimes a format and reinstall of the operating system is necessary……For these reasons I recommend that you uninstall all P2P file sharing or similar applications, utorrent ,Limewire etc. 2 Some of the files downloaded via P2P were infected and these have been disinfected and deleted where appropriate (during your malware clean up) Nevertheless I also recommend strongly that any files downloaded via P2P where their provenance is anything less than 100% are deleted and the Recycle Bin emptied. 3 When you have completed these steps, have a look at your list of programs, by doing this: Click on Start Click on Control Panel Click on Programs and features examine carefully all the installed programs Do you use them all, ? are there any that you dont use? Consider carefully if any of them should be uninstalled, if you are uncertain then fire up your favourite search engine, search for the name and collect all the information on the program so that you can make an informed decision. After you have performed an uninstall of all the ones you don't need, don't forget to reboot your computer (a full shutdown) and restart. 4 You have only about 15% or 16% of free disc space left on your C drive……. this is getting quite slow and is probably beginning to have an adverse effect on performance. 5 You have plenty of space left on your F drive…its recommended that your move some data files (not Windows or Application files) from C to F 6 When completed reboot and defrag your machine 7 Next reboot again and defrag again Run the machine for a week or so and then let us know how you go Regards paws
