Hi,

My Norton 360 product informed me of a MSIE Java Deployment Toolkit Input Invalidation intrusion today and cheking my history I had a HTTP Neospoilt Acivity 3 intrusion in March. My computer is also slow on start up and shut down, as is my browser. My concern is that my computer may be compromised.

Here are my MBR Check, DDS and GMER logs. I kept my antivirus shut down for all of the scans.

Hi,

Please do the following:

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Hi,

Please do the following:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <– very important
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Run an on-line scan with Kaspersky

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky On-line Scanner

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
3. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
Can I ask whether the scans so far have shown up anything? Also, in reference to your last post, am I able to use the MBAM program I already have, or do I need to download another one? Thanks
You can use the Malwarebytes you have already, make sure you update the definitions: You posted run #2 of ComboFix, if you could locate the first log > it should be located at C:\Qoobox\ComboFix2.txt
I posted the ComboFix text file that popped up after the scan (conducted on 8th Aug 10), why was this wrong? I see I have text files at C:\ComboFix.txt and C:\Qoobo\ComboFix2.txt and the ComboFix2 file seems to be the old one as the date on it was 23rd Jun 10.

Nevertheless, here is the ComboFix2 file. Will then run MBAM and Kerpasky.

Hi, I just needed to see the deletions from the first run, did you have trouble running it and you needed to run it again? That's fine, if you could run MBAM and the Kaspersky scan now, thanks.
Hi, The first run of ComboFix was from the previous thread I had on here. Here are my MBAM and Kerpersky reports: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 4410 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 09/08/2010 16:40:21 mbam-log-2010-08-09 (16-40-21).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 146481 Time elapsed: 20 minute(s), 36 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected) ——————————————————————————– KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER 7.0: scan report Tuesday, August 10, 2010 Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600) Kaspersky Online Scanner version: 7.0.26.13 Last database update: Monday, August 09, 2010 02:35:13 Records in database: 4131622 ——————————————————————————– Scan settings: scan using the following database: extended Scan archives: yes Scan e-mail databases: yes Scan area - My Computer: C:\ D:\ Scan statistics: Objects scanned: 79488 Threats found: 1 Infected objects found: 1 Suspicious objects found: 0 Scan duration: 05:22:17 File name / Threat / Threats count C:\Program Files\Online Services\BTYahoo\HPPre05.msi Infected: not-a-virus:Dialer.Win32.BT.g 1 Selected area has been scanned.
Hi

Please do the following:

Clear Sun Jave cache

Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup) If you do not see the icon, look to your left and click 'Switch to Classic View'.
  • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
  • Next, click on the Delete Files button
  • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
    • Applications and Applets
      Trace and Log Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Download TFC to your desktop
Mirror
  • Close any open windows.
  • Double click the TFC icon to run the program
  • TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,
  • Click the Start button to begin the process.
  • Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.
  • The program should not take long to finish it's job
  • Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,
  • if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean
It's normal after running TFC cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Download and run Auslogics Disc Defragmenter

Make sure when installing that you say NO to the Ask toolbar.

Please advise how your computer is running and if there are any outstanding issues.
Hi Catbyte, I have cleared my cache, ran TFC and the Defrag. Its still slow on start up, but as long as there are no viruses then I'm not particularly bothered about that. It was the fact that Norton alerted me to any intrusion to my hard disk volume that worried me. I've had this laptop for 5 years and the hinge and mousepad have just about given up anyway. I was hoping to get another couple of years out of it, but if I buy a new PC, or Mac, could any viruses be transferred to the new one by a USB drive, Ipod etc. that I've used with this computer? Furthermore could viruses hide in my router to transfer to a new laptop that way? I'm sorry if these questions seem silly but I'm purely a consumer level user of computers with little technical knowledge. Thanks.
run this program on all your usb drives etc. It will clean them

Download Flash_Disinfector.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.

You can reset your router and set a strong password:
  • Consult this link to find out what is the default username and password of your router and note down them: Route Passwords

  • Then rest your router to it's factory default settings:

Reset your router to its default configuration. Usually, this can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds)"

  • This is the difficult part.
First get to the routers server. To do that type http:\\192.168.1.1 in the address bar and click Enter. You get the log in window.
Fill in the password you have already found and you will get the configuration page.
Configure the router to allow you to connect to your ISP server. In some routers it is done by a setup wizard. But you have to fill in the log in password your ISP has initially given to you.
You can also call your ISP if you don't have your initial password.
Don't forget to change the routers default password and set a strong password. Note down the password and keep it somewhere for future reference.

  • Please make sure of the following settings:
    • Go to start => Control panel => Double-click Network and Sharing Center.
    • In the left window select Manage network Connection.
    • In the right window right-click Local Area connection and select Properties .
    • Internet Protocol Version 6 (IP6v) should be checked. Double-click on it: Make sure of the following settings:
    • The option Obtain an IP address automatically should be checked.
    • The option Obtain DNS server address automatically should be checked.
    • Click OK.
    • Internet Protocol Version 4 (IP4v) should be checked. Double-click on it.
    • The option Obtain an IP address automatically should be checked.
    • The option Obtain DNS server address automatically should be checked.
  • Click OK twice.
  • If you should change any setting reboot the computer.
OK thanks for that Catbyte. My router has always had a strong password on it so I think we're good on that front. I see the Kerpersky scan foud something labeled "not-a-virus:dialer…". Is this anything to worry about?
that's an installation file for your BT yahoo, did you install that program yourself it is not malicious. Please post a fresh DDS log and advise how the computer is running now and if there are any outstanding issues.
I've never used BT to supply my internet, so I'm not sure how the "not-a-virus:dialer…" threat got there. Could this be something that came with my PC when I bought it? I remember there being shortcuts for certain internet providers on the desktop when it was new. I had to run the DDS twice as the first time I forgot to shut off my antivirus. My computer seems to be running fine - there are no obvious symtpoms.
