Trying to install Spybot but keep getting "The server name or address could not be resolved" when trying to install. Malwarebytes won't even open. Adaware finds no problems. Any malware protection I try to look up keeps getting redirected to ads. Running XP SP2, 1/2 gig ram. Here Hijackthis log. Hi,

First of all, disable word wrap in notepad to make logs appear in more readable format, please.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds file to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Download GMER here by clicking download exe -button and then saving it your desktop:
  • Double-click .exe that you downloaded
  • Click rootkit-tab, uncheck files option and then click scan.
  • Don't check
    Show All
    box while scanning in progress!
  • When scanning is ready, click Copy.
  • This copies log to clipboard
  • Post log (if the log is long, archive it into a zip file and attach instead of posting) in your reply.

Hi,

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

Please ensure you read this guide carefully first.

Please continue as follows:

  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports (post their contents instead of attaching the files) for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Redirected URLs have gotten worse. I tried system restore. It would only go back to July 16 and didn't fix problem.

Hi, Could you be more specific with your issue with ComboFix, please (is there any error message etc)? Did you remember to disable protection before trying to run the tool?

When I run ComboFix I get "publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run software?" When I hit run the message disappears and nothing more happens. I had disabled the fire firewall and even completely uninstalled AVG. In fact I can no longer reinstall AVG. AVG gives message that no working internet connection is detected and won't go any further. I can run Spybot in safe mode but it won't open at all in regular mode so I can't run updates.
