hammerman re: how the pc is running, I haven't been on a lot but the random browser redirects seem to be gone. Generally better I would say. thanks, Mike
Hi,

  • Click the Start button to begin the process. The program should not take long to finish its job
  • Once its finished it should reboot your machine, if not, do this yourself to ensure a complete clean

– Step 2 –

Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
  • Select the Update tab and then click Check for Updates. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Select the Scanner tab, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

  • Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
  • Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.".
  • Click on Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u21-windows-i586.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.

Hammerman - thanks for the update, I was driving over the last few days and couldn't get to it. I will process Monday afternoon. Mike
Hammerman Ran TFC - no issues Here is log for MBAM - it found nothing that needed fixed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 4418 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 8/11/2010 7:32:51 AM mbam-log-2010-08-11 (07-32-51).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 159413 Time elapsed: 7 minute(s), 42 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected)
Hammerman in the add/remove programs part of your last instructions about Java, I can't find any that specifically reference JRE or JRE2 in the headings. There is only one that references Java in the list - it is labeled Jave ™ 6 Update 3. Is that one to get rid of? Or if I don't have any with JRE or JRE2 then do I go ahead and run the JRE 6 Update 21 executable that I downloaded? Just wanted to clarify thanks Mike
Hammerman OK I deleted Java 6 update 3 and installed JRE 6 update 21. I then tried to run Kaspersky. I get an error message saying "Launch of the Java application is interrupted - please establish an uninterrupted internet connection for work with this program" I click ok and Kaspersky looks like its just hung there waiting for something. The update status says "program download and update status: 0% I had shut down Vipre antivirus and the windows firewall prior to this attempt. So no Kaspersky as yet - ideas? Mike
Hi,

Let's try a different scanner.

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan (This scan can take several hours, so please be patient)
  • Once the scan is completed, you may close the window
  • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic
Hammerman ok, I ran the ESET scanner - it found no problems and there was no log file to post. PC is running fine, browser isn't being hijacked, but there are occasions where something won't run on a site or I get a big delay launching a link. thanks Mike

  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box paste this in the following.

  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.
