i recently got a desk top pc from ebay with a Pentium D 805 procesor, it was described as being 3.46ghz. what i dont understand is that the specs which i found here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx…N82E16819116001

state that its 2.66ghx, but when i run cpuid its shows both speeds. could the core speed vary that much between each? or can only 1 core be overclocked which would result in 2 different speeds?

i would like both cores to be the same, btw i do have liquid cooling so i dont think that heat would be an issue.

thank you in advance
That CPU is designed to run at 2.66Ghz. The person who sold it to you overclocked it to 3.46Ghz, and that is why you see the discrepency. Overall, still not a bad buy for $130, but a bit dishonest in my opinion. Overclocking will reduce the life of the CPU, and could cause stability problems. Hopefully the system has been well tested in this configuration.
thank you appleoddity. i thought something was wrong. i guess thats why he didnt give the specific model, just stated intel pentium D 3.46ghz, which when googled misleads one to believe its a 955 and that is VERY different. it has double the cache, double the fsb and is 64 bit capable. but as you stated still not a bad buy.
